국문 초록

이 글의 목적은 해방 직후 수행되었던 정인섭(1947)･이영린(1948)의 필리핀 국제 교류 및 기행문･평론･신문 기사 등 관련 여행 텍스트를 비교 분석하는 것이다. 이를 통해 태평양전쟁 이후 대두되었던 탈식민 윤리 및 전쟁 책임에 대한 반성적 사고･감정들을 검토하는 한편, 제국주의 질서가 와해된 이후 미국의 영향력과 더불어 생성되었던 아시아 신흥 독립국들 간의 관계망을 고찰하고자 한다. 이를 위해 이 글은 다음 두 가지에 초점을 맞춘다. 첫째, 해방기 한국인들이 필리핀･타이완･타이 등 태평양전쟁의 전장(戰場)이었던 (신흥) 독립국들과 ‘관계 맺기’를 시도함으로써, 전쟁 가해자로서의 책임을 인지하고 대동아공영권과 변별되는 인터-아시아(Inter-Asia)의 지형을 구축했던 과정들을 분석한다. 둘째, 해방기 한국인들이 행정･문화예술･교육･종교 방면에서 선보였던 국제 교류의 실천들을 가시화하고, 아시아-태평양 각국과 형성했던 로컬 현지와의 관계망을 새롭게 조명한다. 이러한 본 연구의 시도는 태평양전쟁으로 인해 야기된 역내 갈등과 “미소 냉전이라는 국제 정세”에 대처하고자 했던 신생국 민간인 주체들의 공조 및 협력 과정을 추적하는 한편, 제국주의나 냉전 질서의 주변부에 위치했던 아시아-태평양 국가들과의 관계망을 향해 한국학 연구의 시야를 확장시킨다는 측면에서 의의를 지닌다. 나아가 아시아-태평양 각국과의 다자간 관계망 속에서 과거와 미래를 사유하고자 했던 주체들의 면모는, 글로벌 협력에 주목하는 현시점의 대한민국에도 유효한 시사점을 제공한다.

영문 초록

This paper aims to analyze Korean-Philippine International Exchange by Jung In-sub (1947) and Lee Young-lin (1948) conducted shortly after Korea’s liberation and related travel texts, including travelogues, critiques, and newspaper articles. Through this analysis, it seeks to review the reflective thinking and emotions on postcolonial ethics and war responsibilities that emerged after the Pacific War. Additionally, the paper explores the networks between emerging independent Asian nations formed alongside U.S. influence after the collapse of the imperialist order. The focus of this study is twofold: First, it examines how Koreans in the post-liberation era attempted to establish relations with (newly) independent countries such as the Philippines, Taiwan, and Thailand, which were battlegrounds during the Pacific War. This process involved acknowledging their responsibility as war aggressors and constructing the landscape of Inter-Asia, distinct from the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere. Second, the paper highlights the practices of international exchange in administration, culture and arts, education, and religion demonstrated by Koreans during this period. It sheds new light on the networks formed with local communities in various Asia-Pacific countries. The significance of this study lies in tracing the collaboration and cooperation among the emerging nations’ citizen that sought to address the regional conflicts caused by the Pacific War and “the international situation of the U.S.-Soviet Cold War.” It also aims to expand the scope of Korean studies towards the networks with Asia-Pacific countries, which were peripheral to the imperialist and Cold War orders. Furthermore, the attitudes of these citizens, who contemplated the past and future within the multilateral networks with Asia-Pacific countries, provide relevant insights for contemporary South Korea, which focuses on global cooperation.
