국문 초록

｢旅漢日記｣는 근대 밀양의 유학자 李炳鯤(1882~1948)이 1939년 1월부터 6월까지 두 차례 上京하여 史料를 수집한 일을 기록한 일기이다. 1938년 종형 李炳憙(1859~1938)가 유언으로 『朝鮮史綱目』의 續成을 부탁하였고, 그 유언을 이루기 위해 이병곤은 이듬해 바로 사료 수집에 착수하였다. 수집된 자료들은 현재 『李家墨莊史料叢編』』40책으로 엮여 성균관대학교 존경각에 소장되어 있다. 이병곤이 조사한 사료는 숙종 조부터 순종 조까지의 사서들이다. 관찬사서로는 『고종실록』과 『순종실록』의 초고인 『『實錄編纂成案』 및 『『숙종실록』과 『『철종실록』을 등초하였고, 사찬사서로는 『仁陵紀事』와 『本朝紀事』등을 등초하였다. 이밖에도 여러 가지 자료를 등초하거나 구입하였다. 구입한 자료에는 외국의 역사서도 있었다. 조사한 사료 중에 관찬사서보다 사찬사서의 비중이 월등히 높다는 점은 그의 자료 수집 과정이 어려웠음을 보여준다. 이병곤은 자료 수집을 위해 노력을 했지만 결국 『조선사강목』을 완성하지 못하였다. 이것은 먼저 남인의 시각에 기울지 않고 공정한 역사서를 서술하려 하였으나 그것이 불가능하였기 때문이며, 또한 수집된 사료가 초안이거나 산삭, 축약된 것이어서 자료로서의 가치가 비교적 적었기 때문이기도 하다. 향후 이 논문에서 밝혀진 사실을 근거로 『이가묵장사료총편』과 『조선사강목』을 분석하고, 나아가 이병희와 이병곤의 역사서술의 방향성과 역사관을 이해할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

Yoehanilgi(旅漢日記) is a diary that records the collection historical data by Lee Byung-gon(李炳鯤, 1882-1948), a Confucian scholar in modern Miryang, twice from January to June 1939. The collected data are currently compiled into 40 volumes of the Ligamukjangsaryochongpyoen(李家墨莊史料叢編) and are housed at Sungkyunkwan University's Jongyeonggak Pavilion. The historical records surveyed by Lee Byung-gon are history books from the King Sukjong period to the King Sunjong period. Silogpyeonchansungan, The first draft of the Annals of King Gojong and Annals of King Sunjong, and the Annals of King Sukjong and the Annals of King Cheoljong were abstracted among the official history book. And recording events of Inreung recording and events of present dynasty were abstracted among the Private history book. In addition, various data were abstracted or purchased. There were also foreign history books in the materials purchased. The fact that the proportion of private history book among the surveyed historical sources is much higher than that of official history book shows that his data collection process was difficult. Lee Byung-gon made efforts to collect data, but eventually failed to complete the Chosunsagangmok. This is because he first tried to write a fair history book without leaning toward the perspective of others, but it was impossible. And this is also because the historical records he collected were drafted or abbreviated, so their value as data was relatively small. In the future, based on the findings in this paper, we will be able to analyze Ligamukjangsaryochongpyoen and Chosunsagangmok, and further understand the direction and view of history of Lee Byung-hee and Lee Byung-gon's history description.
