국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 2010년대 이후 국내 현대공예 분야의 디지털 테크놀로지 활용 현황을 조사･분석하는 것이다. 현대공예는 디지털 테크놀로지를 활용함으로써 소재와 표현의 지평을 넓히고 대중적 접근성을 높이는 성과를 얻고 있다. 먼저 공예 제작 측면에서는 디지털 제조 기술을 활용하는 것에 대한 공감대가 형성되었다. 이는 개인화한 디지털 기술로 생산 효율을 높이거나 새로운 표현 가능성을 실험한 사례를 통해 드러난다. 매개 측면에서는 직거래, 쌍방향 소통이 가능한 온라인 유통망 및 교육플랫폼이 구축됨에 따라 공예가가 홍보와 판매, 교육과 같은 역할을 직접 수행할 수 있는 폭이 확대되었다. 공예 교육콘텐츠를 개발하는 것뿐만 아니라 공예문화를 풍성하게 누리는 생활양식을 확산시키는 데에도 디지털 도구가 효과적으로 동원된다. 결론적으로 동시대 공예 영역의 디지털 테크놀로지에 대한 이해는 기능적으로 접근하던 초기의 관점에서 보다 심층적인 국면으로 나아가고 있다. 그 주체로서 공예가는 수공을 중심에 두는 특유의 디지털 리터러시를 형성함으로써 전문제작자의 정체성을 입증한다. 동시에 디지털 환경에서 공예가 이미지로 소비될 경우 물질적 실체인 공예가 소외될 수 있다는 양면적 상황을 마주한다. 향후 영역의 고유성을 침해하지 않는 디지털 리터러시를 확립하는 일은 공예문화를 향유하는 집단 전체에 부여된 과제이다.

영문 초록

The study investigates and analyzes the current status of digital technology use in the Korean contemporary craft since 2010s. By utilizing digital technology, contemporary craft has achieved results in expanding the horizon of material and expression and increasing public points of contact. First of all, a growing consensus on the application of digital fabrication in craft making has formed, and it is shown in cases that increase production efficiency or experiment with new possibilities in expression through personalized digital technology. Moreover in the aspect of intermediaries, the range of direct participation of craft artists in activities for promotion, distribution, and education has increased. Along with the growth of online distribution networks and e-learning platforms in digital spaces where direct transactions and interactive communication are enabled, craft artists are actively participating in developing craft education contents and promoting lifestyles based on enjoying the craft culture. In conclusion, the understanding of digital technology in contemporary craft is entering into a more profound phase from the early perspective which approached technology as functionality. Craft artists prove their identity as professional makers by forming their unique digital literacy in a way that utilizes digital technology independently along with handwork. At the same time, as crafts are consumed as images in a digital environment where objectivity is excluded, contemporary craft faces an ambivalent situation in which crafts, specific objects and material entities, are at risk of being alienated. Establishing digital literacy that does not threaten the uniqueness of the craft is a future task assigned to the entire collective.
