문법 지식 지도의 필요성과 발전 방향

국문 초록

이 논문은 현행 운영되고 있는 제7차 교육과정에서 중등학교 문법 지도의 필요성과 발전 방안을 제시하는 데에 있다. 이를 위해서는 기능주의 문법과 학문주의 문법의 상호보완적인 관점으로 나아가되, 문법교육의 문제점을 개선해 나아가는 방향이어야 한다.우선, 국어학적인 관점을 기저로 하되, 문법 지식의 내용 체계에 따라 보다 체계적이고 위계화된 배열로 조직되어야 한다. 둘째, 6차에 비해 7차의 ‘국어 지식’ 단원이 다른 영역과 비교해 볼 때 줄어들었으며, 문법 과목을 심화 선택 과목으로 설정한 결과 이를 채택하여 가르치는 학교가 매우 적다는 사실이다(서울시의 경우, 인문계고등학교는 14.2%, 실업계고등학교는 2.5% 선택). 더욱이 문법 과목은 다른 과목에 비해 단위수가 4단위로 가장 적기 때문에 일선 학교에서 문법 과목을 채택할 수 있도록 심화선택 과목 지침서를 만들어야 할 것이다.셋째, 모어 화자의 생득적인 언어 능력과 후천적으로 학습에 의해 얻어지는 문법 지식은 구별되어야 한다. 즉, 언어 능력은 습득될 수 있지만, 문법 지식은 체계적으로 학습되어야 한다. 따라서 언어를 배우는 이유를 단지 의사소통을 위한 도구적인 차원이라는 태도는 지양되어야 할 것이다. 현행 문법 교육에 대한 여러 가지 문제점을 인식하고, 문법 지식의 체계적이고 효과적인 학습을 통해야만 국어를 정확하게 사용하는 능력을 기를 수 있음을 고찰하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to find out the ways to improvement of the Korean grammar Education under the frame of the 7th national curricula for Korean in middle and high school. To this end, a comprehensive, review of both descriptive grammar and functional grammar is done, and an analysis of 6,7th national curricula and textbooks, is also conducted in an effort to solve problem with grammar education. First, the domain of Korean linguistic knowledge, which is the same as Korean in high school should be organized according to contents of grammar knowledge in a systematic and grading manner. Second, the subject of Korean grammar in high school is given only four units which is the smallest of all the deepening, optional subjects, and that there have been very few schools selecting Korean grammar as an optional subject in Seoul city(14.2% for an academic high school and 2.5% for business high school), it was clear that it would be hard to promote an accurate use of language in everyday life among our students which is the main goal of the 7th national curricula for Korean. So a special instruction needs to be developed and used actively to help students select grammar as subject in high school. Third, Korean linguists and korean language practioners need to stay away from their view of language learning as a means to achieve communicative ability, and instead move toward a better understanding of the importance of teaching grammatical knowledge in a systematic, effective way on the basis of the assumption that innate linguistic competence differs from grammar know which should be learned and taught consciously and explicitly. In conclusion, the present study which looked into currently used grammar textbooks placed special attention to a variety of problems or issues, and attempted to present content of grammar items leading to the effective, systematic learning and teaching of Korean grammar.
