In English Pronunciation Education, the most common way of teaching students has been ‘Listen and Repeat’ method. This can be said the very strategy of learning one's mother tongue. When a child learns its mother tongue, he or she is exposed to the situation where the language itself is being communicated. Even in this kind of situation, a child has to spend a very long time to master the language, for he or she has nothing but the trial and error method with the help of the cognitive power and the so-called Language Acquisition Device. But when it comes to the acquisition of a foreign language, the situation is quite different. If one uses the trial and error method to learn a foreign language, especially the pronunciation of the language, he or she can hardly have the chance of mastering the language. In this study, I introduced a new way to supplement the Listen and Repeat method. Because with the listen and repeat method students have to endure too much trials and errors, they are very likely to give up acquiring a new way of pronouncing the segmentals (eg. consonants and vowels) and suprasegmentals (accent, stress, rhythm and intonation) of the foreign language out of his or her pronouncing strategies of the mother tongue. Unfortunately this is the most prevailing situation of learning any foreign pronunciation. I devised a new manual of English text written not in the normal spelling system but in IPA(International Phonetic Alphabet). With this material, students can drill themselves by reading aloud the phonetic symbols, which proved very helpful to acquire English pronunciations. This method can be called ‘See and Read aloud’ method, which is supplementary but very productive of proficiency. After a contrastive experiment of two classes, this new method proved very productive, though it needs further studies.
