인의론, 우리는 죽음의 세계를 벗어날 수 있는가?

국문 초록

인의론은 항상 위기에 빠진 세계 속에서 그리스도인이 자신의 존재의 정당성을 신문한다. 바울은 그 대답을 “죽음으로 귀결되는 삶의 양식을 십자가에 못 박고, 그리스도로 옷 입는 것”으로 제시한다. 율법에 매인 육신의 삶에서 벗어나는 것이다. 바울이 인의론으로 제시하는 삶의 양식의 이행은 ‘주체의 이행’을 동반한다. 바울은 다마스쿠스 사건 이후 전 생애를 이 기획에 헌신하며 로마제국의 영토 곳곳에 구체적으로 다른 삶의 양식을 실천하는 하나님의 민회, 곧 교회를 구성하는 것으로 현실화한다. 바울이 인의론을 통해 구상하는 새로운 삶의 가능성은 오늘날 기후 생태 위기에 대처하는 실천에 풍부한 통찰을 제공한다. 기후 생태위기는 자본주의의 위기이며, 이는 다시 자본주의적 삶의 양식이 한계에 봉착했음을 드러내는 것이기 때문이다. 결국 자본주의적 삶의 양식을 끝내야 한다. 그러나 자본주의는 자본주의적 주체와 함께 유지된다. 자본주의적 주체는 자본이 순환하는 과정에서 발생하는 잉여를 쾌락의 자원으로 활용하도록 구성된 주체이다. 문제는 자본주의적 주체 구성 방식에 개입하여 이를 재구성 혹은 이행하는 길을 찾는 것이다. 오늘날 새롭게 부상하는 정신분석과 정치신학은 이 문제에 부심하고 있다. 이 글은 자본주의적 삶의 양식을 이행하기 위해 주체의 문제에 관심하는 두 학문과 함께 바울의 텍스트를 읽음으로써 인의론의 동시대적 의미를 살펴본다. 바울은 “율법의 행위가 아니라 그리스도를 믿는 믿음으로”라고 주장한다. 십자가에 달린 자를 그리스도로 믿는다는 것은 그를 십자가에 매단 육신과 율법의 체제가 죽음과 허무의 체제이며, 우리의 욕망이 이 체제를 지탱하고 있다는 진실과 대면하는 것이다. 이는 정신분석 임상의 ‘분석의 끝’에서 분석 주체가 도달하는 상태와 비교될 수 있다. 한편 “그리스도로 옷 입는다”는 바울의 은유는 부활에의 참여를 말한다. 특히 바디우와의 대화에서 이는 영광의 신학, 혹은 십자가의 고통에 대한 보상으로서의 부활이라는 전통적인 신학적 접근과 구별된다. 그것은 십자가의 공백 속에서 그리스도의 삶을 견지하는 과정에서 새로운 삶의 양식을 창안하는 동시에 새로운 주체로 이행하는 가능성을 보여준다.

영문 초록

Justification is always a question that Christians seek the legitimacy of their existence in a world in crisis. Paul offers the answer as “the crucifying of a life that leads to death and putting on Christ”. It is to break free from the life of the flesh that is bound by the law. The transition of the lifestyle presented by Paul in his justification is accompanied by the ‘transformation of the subject’. Paul dedicates his entire life to this project after the Damascus event and realizes it as forming God's ecclesia, that is, the church, that practices other lifestyles in various parts of the Roman Empire. The new possibility of life that Paul envisioned through justification provides a wealth of insight into the practice of coping with today's climate and ecological crisis. The climate and ecological crisis is a crisis of capitalism, because it again reveals that the capitalist mode of life has reached its limit. Ultimately, the capitalist mode of life must end. But capitalism is maintained with the capitalist subject. The capitalist subject is a subject constructed to utilize the surplus generated in the process of capital circulation as a resource for pleasure. The problem is finding a way to intervene in the capitalist way of constructing the subject and reconstruct or transfer it. Today, emerging psychoanalysis and political theology are struggling with this problem. This article examines the contemporary meaning of justification by reading Paul's texts along with two disciplines that are interested in the subject matter to transition a capitalist way of life. Paul asserts that “not by obeying the law, but by faith in Christ.” To believe that the crucified person is Christ is to face the truth that the body and law system that hung him on the cross is the system of death and vanity, and our desires support this system. This can be compared to the state reached by the analytical subject at the ‘end of analysis’ in psychoanalytic practice. On the other hand, Paul's metaphor of “putting on Christ” refers to participation in the resurrection. Especially in the dialogue with Badiou, this is distinct from the traditional theological approach of the theology of glory or the resurrection as a reward for the suffering of the cross. It shows the possibility of creating a new mode of life and transitioning to a new subject in the process of maintaining the life of Christ in the void of the cross.
