동시대 중국 청춘영화에 대한 서사학적 고찰

국문 초록

중국 대륙에서 청춘영화는 2010년대 이후 포스트 80세대의 청춘 회고의 형식으로 양적인 팽창을 거듭했고, 점차 다른 장르 영화의 관습을 수용하면서 현실 소재를 채택하는 등 장르적 외연을 확장해왔다. 영화 <少年的你>는 범죄 영화라는 장르적 관습을 빌려 학원 폭력이라는 현실 소재를 다룸으로써 중국 청춘영화의 지평을 한층 더 넓혔다는 평가를 받는 작품이다. 이에 본고에서는 그레마스 서사기호학을 통해 영화 <少年的你>의 내러티브를 분석하고, 그 표층 구조와 심층 구조를 면밀히 살핌으로써 이러한 현실 소재 청춘영화가 환기하는 동시대 중국 사회의 징후적 독해를 시도하였다. 우선 행동자 모델로 표층 내러티브를 분석함으로써 다음과 같은 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 첫째, 영화의 청춘 주체가 명문대학이라는 대상을 욕망하는 행위는 동시대 중국 사회의 무산계급 주체가 자본을 획득하고 사회적 성공을 추구하는 행위를 반영한다. 둘째, 이러한 추구는 이해관계가 없는 조력자의 도움만 받을 수 있을 뿐이며, 다른 사회구성원은 필연적으로 잠재적 적대자가 된다. 셋째, 발신자인 감독은 포스트 80세대를 대변하여 현 세대의 청춘 주체를 호명하고 그들에게 자기 삶을 선택하는 지혜를 전하고자 했다. 이어서 기호사각형을 통해 심층 내러티브를 분석하고 영화 <少年的你>를 구성하는 두 개의 기본 명제 사이의 대립 관계, 모순 관계, 내포 관계를 살펴보았다. 이 심층 내러티브 분석에 따라 다음과 같은 결론이 도출되었다. 첫째, 이 영화적 재현은 사회적 성공과 합법적 행위라는 양립 불가능한 두 가지 명제를 전제로 삼는다. 둘째, 이 논리적 전제의 양립 불가능성은 절망적으로 폐쇄적인 조건으로 작용해 청춘 주체들을 억압한다. 셋째, 부조리한 사회 시스템 속에서 약육강식이라는 생존 원칙을 선택한 청춘 주체들은 결국 그 중충적인 구조적 모순을 개인적으로 끌어안을 수밖에 없는 비극적인 상황에 내몰린다. 상술한 이유로 인해, 일견 희망적으로 보이는 이 영화의 결말은 역설적으로 더욱 더 비극적이다.

영문 초록

In mainland China, youth films have been expanding quantitatively in the form of youth reflections in the post-80s since the 2010s, and gradually embraced the customs of other genres and adopted real materials. The movie “Better Days” is a work that is evaluated to have further expanded the horizons of Chinese youth films by dealing with the reality of academy violence by borrowing the genre custom of crime movies. In this paper, we analyzed the narrative of the movie “Better Days” through Greimas Semiotics, and tried to symptomatic reading of contemporary Chinese society evoked by these real-life youth films. By analyzing the surface narrative with the Actanctial Model, the following results were obtained. First, the subject of the youth of the film desiring the object of a prestigious university reflects the action of proletarians in contemporary Chinese society to acquire capital and pursue social success. Second, this pursuit can only be done by assistants who are not interested in the same value, and other members of society inevitably become potential enemies. Third, the director, the sender, spoke on behalf of the post-80s, calling out the youth of the current generation and trying to convey the wisdom of choosing one's own life to them. The deep narrative was analyzed through Semiotic Square and the contrary, contradictory, and implication relationship between the two basic propositions constituting the movie “Better Days” was examined. This deep narrative analysis led to the following conclusions. First, this cinematic representation presupposes two incompatible propositions: social success and legal action. Second, the incompatibility of this logical premise acts as a desperately closed condition, oppressing the subject of the youth. Third, the subject of the youth who choose the survival principle of a food chain in which the strong eat the weak in the absurd social system are eventually forced into a tragic situation where they have no choice but to embrace the profound structural contradiction personally. For the above reasons, the seemingly hopeful ending of the film is paradoxically all the more tragic.
