『쓰시마일기[津島日記]』에 반영된 신미통신사(1811) 연구

국문 초록

이 글은 草場珮川의 사행록인 『쓰시마일기[津島日記]』에 반영된 신미통신사(1811)를 살핀 것이다. 첫째, 『쓰시마일기』의 형성배경을 살폈다. 『쓰시마일기』는 草場珮川이 스승인 古賀精里를 따라 쓰시마[對馬島]에서 조선에서 파견한 신미통신사(1811)를 맞아 외교활동을 펼쳤던 사실을 기록한 일기체 사행록이다. 통신사를 맞아 교류하고 쓰시마를 견문한 소중한 체험을 기록으로 남기고자 했던 草場珮川의 의지가 잘 반영되어 있다. 둘째, 『쓰시마일기』의 서술 체제상의 특징을 살폈다. 『쓰시마일기』는 국서전명식과 향응례를 기준으로 卷을 나누었고, 서술 형식은 일정한 체계가 없되 그날 견문한 내용과 공문서 등은 당일의 일기 속에 모두 수록하였다. 특히 일기 속에 자신이 직접 그린 삽화를 수록함으로써 일기의 기술 내용을 보다 구체화하고 독자의 이해를 돕는데 크게 기여했다. 셋째, 『쓰시마일기』에 반영된 신미통신사의 모습을 살폈다. 『쓰시마일기』는 일본 사행단의 통신사 맞이와 여가 활동, 필담창화를 비롯한 양국의 문화교류, 쓰시마와 조선에 대한 정보의 채록, 통신사행에 대한 비판의식의 노정 등 통신사를 대하는 일본 사행원의 활동과 의식을 잘 반영하고 있었다. 이처럼 草場珮川의『쓰시마일기』는 일본 측 사행원의 시점에서 신미통신사를 반영하고 있다는 점에서 『동사록』과 같은 통신사 사행록과 함께 신미통신사를 입체적으로 이해할 수 있는 귀중한 텍스트로서 그 의의를 높이 평가할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study examines Shinmi-Tongsinsa(1811) reflected in the ‘Diary of Tsushima[津島日記]’ by Kusaba-Hisen[草場珮川]. First, the background of the formation of ‘Diary of Tsushima’ was examined. ‘Diary of Tsushima’ is a meandering record of the fact that Kusaba-Hisen followed his master Goka-Seiri[古賀精里] to Tsushima[對馬島] and conducted diplomatic activities in response to the Shinmi-Tongsinsa(1811) dispatched from Joseon. Kusaba-Heizen s will to keep a record of his valuable experiences of interacting with the Tongsinsa and visiting Tsushima was well reflected. Second, the characteristics of the narrative system of ‘Diary of Tsushima’ was examined. The ‘Diary of Tsushima’ is divided into books based on the ceremony to deliver the national anthem and ceremonies of hospitality. Although there is no fixed format for the narrative, the contents of the day s experience and official documents are all recorded in the diary of the day. In particular, by including illustrations drawn by himself in the diary, he contributed greatly to making the description of the diary more concrete and helping the reader s understanding. Third, the appearance of Shinmi-Tongsinsa reflected in ‘Diary of Tsushima’ was examined. ‘Diary of Tsushima’ were well reflected entertainment and leisure activities for Tongsinsa of the Japanese delegation, cultural exchanges between the two countries including writings, the collection of information of Tsushima and Joseon, and expressing criticism of Tongsinsa, etc. As such, Kusaba-Heizen s ‘Diary of Tsushima’ reflects of the Shinmi-Tongsinsa from the point of view of a Japanese delegation. Therefore, the significance of the text can be highly appreciated as a valuable text that can understand Shinmi-Tongsinsa three- dimensionally along with the record such as ‘Dongsarok’
