한국전쟁기 『주간국제』의 문학 활동과 문학담론

국문 초록

이 글은 한국전쟁기 『주간국제』의 매체전략에 대응하는 문학 활동을 실증적으로 연구하여 문학담론의 특성을 규명하는 데 목표를 두었다. 『주간국제』의 대중적 문화전략의 핵심 분야는 문학이었다. 한국전쟁기 출판물의 중심에 여전히 문학이 자리매김하는 가운데 『주간국제』의 편집진이 문인이라는 점과 독자대중의 요구가 적지 않았던 점이 뒷받침하고 있었다. 창간호부터 제15호까지 『주간국제』에 게재된 문학작품은 총 73편이며, 『국제신보』 광고에 기대 제18호까지 확대하면 총 78편에 달했다. 문학란에는 문총의 핵심세력, 원로 문인들, 문인언론인, 후반기동인, 신인과 독자 등 피난문단의 여러 구성원들이 참여하고 있었다. 『주간국제』의 소재 문학작품은 피난문단의 다양한 문학담론을 전경화하였다. 첫째, 반공국가주의에 준한 전쟁문학으로 반공문학담론을 양산하고 있었다. 반공이데올로기 선전전에 복무하는 전쟁시도 있었지만, 『주간국제』가 강제포로소환문제를 쟁점화한 수기집을 기획·발간하여 반공국가주의에 유리한 공론장을 구축하고 있었다. 둘째, 『주간국제』의 소설계는 기성의 창작태도를 답습하며 피난사회와 삶의 단면을 묘파하는 수준에 그쳤다. 작가의 비판정신을 찾기 힘들만큼 반공과 냉전의 금제 속에 순수문학의 제도화 파장을 정면에서 보여주었다. 셋째, 후반기동인은 피난문단에 논란을 불러일으키며 모더니즘 이론의 소개와 창작적 실천을 보여주었다. 넷째, 신인과 문학지망생 독자들은 피난문단의 활성화된 동인지활동과 연동하여 새로운 활력을 불어넣고 있었다. 그런데도 순수문학의 범주를 벗어나지 못한 한계를 지니고 있었다. 『주간국제』는 피난문단의 지형과 변화를 다양하게 담아내고 이끌어갔던 매체였다. 문예지와 달리 시사종합주간지로서 피난문단의 여러 국면을 포괄하기 용이했기 때문이었다. 『주간국제』의 문학란은 독자적 문화적 지형을 창출하며 한국전쟁기 피난문단의 문학 활동과 문학담론을 새롭게 구축할 수 있었다 하겠다.

영문 초록

This article aims to clarify the characteristics of literary discourse by empirically researching literary activities corresponding to the media strategy of the “Weekly Kookje” during the Korean War. Literature was the core field of the popular cultural strategy of “Weekly Kookje”. From the first issue to the 15th issue, a total of 73 literary works were published in the “Weekly Kookje”, and when expanded to No. 18, the “The Kookje Shin Bo” advertisement reached a total of 78. In the literature section, several members of the refugee group, including core forces of Munchong, senior literary men, literary journalists, post-starters, newcomers and readers, participated. Literature works as the subject matter of “Weekly Kookje” turned the various literary discourses of the refugee group into the foreground. First, it was mass-producing anti-communist literary discourse with war literature conforming to anti-communist nationalism. Although there were times of war that served in anti-communist ideology propaganda, the “Weekly Kookje” planned and published a collection of notes on the issue of forced recall of prisoners of war, building a forum for anti-communist nationalism. Second, the novel world of “Weekly Kookje” was only at the level of culminating in the section of refugee society and life even in novels dealing with refugee life. It was hard to find the criticism of realism literature, and it showed the wave of institutionalization of pure literature in the face of anti-communist and cold war bans. Third, the late starters brought controversy to the evacuation paragraph and showed modernist theory and creative practice. Fourth, newcomers and readers of literary aspirations were invigorating new vitality by linking with the active fanzine activities of the evacuation group. Nevertheless, it had limitations that could not go beyond the scope of pure literature. “Weekly Kookje” was a medium that captured and led the topography and changes of the evacuation section in various ways. This was because unlike literary magazines, it was easy to cover various aspects of the evacuation paragraph as a current affairs comprehensive weekly magazine. The Literature section of “Weekly Kookje” creates its own cultural landscape and makes the literary activities and literary discourse of the evacuation group during the Korean War a new meaning.
