정호승 시에 나타난 ‘똥’의 의미

국문 초록

본 연구는 정호승 시에서 중요한 시적 소재로 등장하고 있는 ‘똥’의 의미를 고찰하고 이를 통해 시인의 시세계에 대한 이해와 연구를 심화․확장하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 정호승 시에 나타나는 똥은 먼저 종교적 상상력과 결부되어 겸비와 회개, 승화와 재생의 의미로 나타난다. 기독교적 상상력을 바탕으로 한 작품에서는 실제 삶 속에서 가장 비천하고 낮은 것을 의미하는 ‘똥을’ 통해 추상화․형식화된 구원의 의미에 맞서 인간이 처해 있는 삶의 구체성과 실천으로서의 구원을 이야기한다. 불교적 상상력을 바탕으로 한 ‘해우소’를 소재로 한 시편들에서 ‘똥’은 육체와 정신의 비움과 이를 바탕으로 한 채움의 의미를 보여준다. 여기서 ‘똥’을 누는 행위는 마음의 근심을 덜어내고 승화로 나아가는 것으로 의미가 확장된다. 또한 똥은 인간과 동물, 인간과 자연의 경계를 넘어 수평적 열림의 소통으로 나아가는 하나의 사건, 계기로서 드러난다. 똥은 인간의 동물성을 환기시키는 것으로, 인간과 동물을 가로지르는 지점에 ‘똥 누기’가 있다. 인간이면서 동물 혹은 자연이라는 ‘사이-존재’로서의 의미 생성은 ‘똥’이라는 구체적인 물질로, ‘똥을 누는’ 행위를 통해 발현된다. 시인은 억압에서 벗어나 진정한 자유의 존재로 나아가기 위해 동물 되기, 어린아이 되기를 열망한다. 시인은 이와 같은 되기를 통해 새로운 인간 존재의 가능성을 꿈꾸고, 변화와 생성에로 나아간다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to examine the meaning of ‘dung’ which is emerging as an important poetic material in Jeong Ho Seung’s poetry, and to intensify and expand poet s poetic world understanding and research. The dung that appears in Jeong Ho Seung is first associated with religious imagination, and represents humility, repentance, sublimation and regeneration. In the work based on Christian imagination, he talks about the specificity of life and the salvation as a practice against the meaning of abstract and formal salvation through ‘dung’ which means the lowest and the lowest in real life. In poems based on ‘Haeuso’ based on Buddhist imagination, dung shows the meaning of the emptying of body and mind and the filling based on it. The act of putting ‘dung’ here is extended to relieve the anxiety of the mind and move to sublimation. Dung is also revealed as an event that leads to the communication of horizontal openness across the boundaries of human beings, animals, human beings and nature. Dung is a ventilation of human animal, and there is ‘pooping’ at the point crossing human and animal. The creation of meaning as a ‘in-between’ of humans as animals or nature is manifested through the act of ‘pooing’ as a specific substance called ‘dung’. The poet aspires becoming animals and a child to move from oppression to the existence of true freedom. He dreams of the possibility of a new human being through this, and proceeds to change and creation.
