국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 중학교 2학년의 읽기 능력과 학업성취의 상관관계를 분석하는 것이다. 읽기 능력을 측정하기 위해 표준화된 읽기 능력 검사인 NRI 독서 종합 검사를 실시하였다. 학업성취도는 2학년 1학기 중간․기말 고사 성적 자료를 수집하였다. 대상 과목은 국어․도덕․역사․수학․과학이었다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 읽기 능력과 학업성취도의 상관관계는 보통 수준 이상인 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 국어과를 제외하고 읽기 능력의 하위 요소 중에서 추론적 읽기 능력과 학업성취도의 상관관계가 가장 높은 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 지필평가 문항의 특성에 따라 상관관계가 다르게 나타났다. 자료 제시형 문항의 비율이 높고 글 형식의 자료가 제시된 과목의 상관관계가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 여학생 또는 학업성취도가 높은 학생일수록 상대적으로 낮은 상관관계를 보이는 것으로 나타났다. 이와 관련하여 교과 지식의 영향을 추론해 볼 수 있었다. 끝으로 읽기 능력이 높을수록 높은 상관관계를 보이는 것으로 나타났다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between reading ability and academic achievement of middle school second- year students. To measure reading ability, we conducted a comprehensive reading test of NRI, a standardized Korean reading ability test. Academic achievement was collected from the midterm and final exam grades in the first semester of the second year. The subjects were Korean language, ethics, history, mathematics, and science. The results of the study are as follows: First, the correlation between reading ability and academic achievement is above normal level. Second, among the sub-factors of reading ability, the correlations between inferential reading ability and academic achievement were the highest. Third, the correlations were different according to the characteristics of the exams’ evaluation items. The proportion of the items in the data presentation type is high and the correlation between the texts in which the text type data is presented is high. Fourth, female students and students with high academic achievement showed a relatively low correlation. In this regard, I could deduce the influence of subject knowledge. Finally, the higher the reading ability, the higher the correlation.
