상품시장의 성과와 자본구조와의 관계

국문 초록

본 논문은 1990년부터 2010년까지 거래소 시장에 상장된 제조업을 대상으로 상품시장 성과와 자본구조 간에 유의적인 선형 또는 비선형 관계가 존재하는지를 실증 검증한다. 즉 기업의 부채사용이 해당 기업의 상품시장 성과에 어떻게 영향을 주는지를 검증한다. 실증분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 레버리지비율이 높은 그룹이 상품시장 성과에 좋지 않은 영향을 주었다. 둘째, 레버리지가 상품시장 성과에 선형 또는 비선형 형태의 영향을 주고 있는지를 검증한 결과 비선형적으로 유의적이게 영향을 주고 있었다. 즉 초기 부채비율이 증가할 경우 상품시장성과가 좋아지다가 어느 일정시점 이후 레버리지비율이 높을수록 상품시장성과가 하락하는 결과를 보였다.

영문 초록

This paper examines whether there is a significant linear or nonlinear relation between product market performance and capital structure for non-financial firms listed in KOSPI market over period of 1990 and 2010. Previous studies propose that there is a non- monotonic relation between debt-like finance and competitive conduct. This paper empirically tests this relationship. The results are as follows. It finds that firms with high leverage have bad effect on the product market competitive performance. Second, we provide the evidence that there is also non-linearity relation between product market performance and capital structure. This implies that as leverage increase, product market competitive performance increases as well, but after specific level, then product market performance decreases. This result is robust after controlling for characteristic variable related to firm.
