환율이 지역의 무역수지에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

본 연구는 환율이 부산지역의 무역수지에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 합산편의 문제를 해결함과 동시에 지역적 특성을 파악하기 위하여 업종별 무역수지 자료를 이용하였으며, 소표본 문제를 해결하기 위하여 비교적 최신의 계량기법인 ARDL(autoregressive distributed lag) 한계검정법을 적용하여 분석의 효율성을 높였다. 분석결과에 의하면 실질실효환율의 경우 단기적으로는 20개업종 중 10개 업종에서, 장기적으로는 6개 업종에서 환율의 상승이 무역수지를 개선시키는 것으로 나타났다. 환율이 다른 변수보다는 영향력이 큰 변수인 것으로 나타났으나, 전국에 비해서는 환율의 영향력이 다소 제한적인 것으로 파악되었다. 특히 부산의 최대 교역품목인 철강제품의 경우 단기 무역수지 개선효과는 있으나 장기 무역수지 개선효과는 없는 것으로 나타났으며, 두 번째 큰 교역품목인 수송기계의 경우 장ㆍ단기 모두에서 무역수지 개선효과가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과에 의하면, 환율의 불안정성이 부산의 무역수지나 지역경제에 미치는 악영향은 상대적으로 적을 것으로 사료된다. 그러나 이러한 결과가 부산경제의 안정성을 의미하는 것이 아니라 부산의 산업경쟁력 약화가 환율과 무관하게 발생하고 있기 때문일 수 있다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this research is to examine the effect of exchange rates on trade balance of Busan region. We enhanced the accuracy of analysis taking advantage of the industrial level data and the recently developed ARDL bounds test method. We found the cointegration relationship on 18 industries of 20 industries among the real trade balance, the real effective exchange rate, the industrial product of Korea, and the industrial products of Foreign countries. In case of the real effective exchange rates, rise on the exchange rates has short-run positive effects on the trade balance of 10 industries and has long-run positive effects on the trade balance of 6 industries. The real effective exchange rate is an important variable compared with other variables, but the influence of exchange rates on Busan is lower than that of nation. Especially, steel manufacture which is one of the biggest trade items on Busan, has short-run positive effects on the trade balance while the long-run effect on the trade balance is ineffective. Transportation machinery, the next important trade item, has no positive effects on the trade balance in both long-run and short-run relationship.
