소득수준별 외식비 엥겔곡선 추정에 관한 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 소득수준별 엥겔곡선을 추정하고, 외식비에 대한 소득탄력성과 가격탄력성을 추정하는데 그 목적이 있다. 기존의 연구에서 소비와 소득 간의 축약방정식에 의존하는 형태를 탈피하여 보다 이론적으로 충실한 AIDS 모형의 추정방정식을 설정함으로써 기존연구와 차별성을 가진다. 추정결과 가장 하위 소득주준인 소득1분위만이 외식비지출에 대해서 사치재라는 결과가 도출되었으며, 나머지 4개 분위는 필수재라는 결과가 도출되었다. 소득탄력성의 경우 소득1분위는 1.02로 소득과 외식비 지출비중이 거의 동일한 비율로 증가하는 것으로 나타났으며, 소득5분위의 경우 0.58로 소득이 10% 증가하는 경우 외식비지출이 5.8% 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 가격탄력성의 경우 모든 소득계층에서 가격에 대하여 외식비 수요가 비탄력적인 것으로 추정되었으나 소득수준이 낮은 소득1분위에서 가장 민감하게 반응하는 것으로 추정되었다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to estimate the Engel curve and, the price and income elasticity of dining-out. Unlike other literatures in which their estimations are based on reduced forms that depend on the relations between consumption and income, our estimation is based on the Almost Ideal Demand System that is well conformed to theories and satisfies the axioms of choice, which gives this study distinct from previous studies. The results show that ‘Dining-Out’ is a luxurious goods only in the lowest 20% income level, while necessary goods in other income levels. The income elasticity is estimated at 1.02 in the lowest 20% income level, which means that income and ‘Dining-Out’ expenditure increase at the same rate, while it is estimated at 0.58 in the highest 20% income level, which means that 10% increase in income causes 5.8% increase in ‘Dining-Out’ expenditure. The price elasticities are estimated inelastic in all income levels. However, the demand for dining-out is most sensitive to price change in the lowest income level.
