집단화된 자료의 도수다각형에 근거한 분위수 계산법과 관련 모의실험 연구

국문 초록

주어진 통계자료가 집단화되어 있는 상태인 경우 통계량의 참값에 조금이라도 더 가까운 값을 얻게 해주는 계산 방법을 사용하는 것이 중요하다. 본 논문에서는 집단화된 자료의 분위수들을 계산하는 새로운 방법을 제시하였다. 제시된 방법은 집단화된 자료의 히스토그램에 따라 그려지는 도수다각형에 근거를 둔 것이다. 통계학 교재에 주어져 있는 몇 가지의 자료를 대상으로 하여, 제시된 방법을 모의실험을 통해 기존의 방법들과 비교하였다. 모의실험에서는, 각 계급구간에서 도수다각형에 의해 주어진 모양의 확률밀도함수를 갖는 분포를 찾아낸 뒤 역변환 방법을 이용하여, 이 분포를 따르는 모의자료값들을 각 계급구간에서 주어진 도수와 같은 개수만큼 발생시키는 방식으로 모의자료를 생성하였다. 기존의 방법들에 의한 분위수와 제시된 방법에 의한 분위수 중 어느 것이 생성된 모의자료의 분위수에 더 가까운가를 비교하였다. 모의실험 결과, 사분위수와 십분위수의 계산의 정확도에 있어 제시된 방법이 기존의 방법들에 비해 전반적으로 우세한 결과를 주는 것을 볼 수 있었다.

영문 초록

When we deal with grouped data, it is important to use a calculation method that gives as close value to the true value of a statistic as possible. In this paper, we have proposed a new method to calculate the quantiles of grouped data. The proposed method is based on the frequency polygon that is drawn according to the histogram of grouped data. Through simulations using some textbook datasets, we have compared this method with two existing methods. In the simulation study, we simulated data by generating as many data values as given in each class interval, on the basis of the distribution that has the shape given by the frequency polygon. The inverse transform method has been used as a theoretical tool. We have compared which of the existing methods and the proposed method gives a closer quantile value to the quantile value of the simulated data. The simulation study says that the proposed method is the overall winner over the two existing methods in the accuracy in calculating quartiles and deciles.
