80세 이상 초고령 인구 추정방법 비교연구

국문 초록

사회의 선진화와 더불어 인구의 고령화는 피할 수 없는 문제이며 우리나라에서도 심각한 문제로 대두되고 있다. 세계적으로 UN의 기준에 따라 65세 이상 인구로 사회의 고령화 정도를 측정하고 있으나, 실제 문제가 직접적으로 유발되는 연령대는 80세 이상 초고령층이 될 것이다. 초고령층에 대한 자료확보는 다른 연령대에 비하여 많은 어려움이 따르기 때문에 각 국가에서는이를 보정하여 사용하거나, 추정된 결과를 사용하기도 한다. 우리나라의 경우 통계청에서 KOSIS를 통하여 제공하고 있는 인구자료인 총조사인구, 주민등록인구, 추계인구는 시간과 연령기준에서 일관성을 유지하지 못하고 있으며 80세 이상 초고령층에 대해서는 연구를 진행할 수 없을 정도로 자료가 부족한 상황이다. 본 논문에서는 통계청에서 2006년 발표한 ‘100세이상 고령자 통계’의 문제점과 우리나라의 공식인구인 추계인구에서 고령인구에 대한 통계의 문제점을 지적하였다. 또한 이 문제의 해결을 위한 고령인구의 추정방법들을 소개하고, 우리나라 자료에 적용할경우 보완되어야 할 부분에 대한 제안과 아울러 적절성을 기준으로 비교평가 하였다.

영문 초록

The aging of population is an inevitable issue in developed countries. It also causes serious problem in South Korea. According to UN standards, we measure the degree of aging of society as the population aged over 65, but the population of people aged over 80 is a major concern in aging society. Since collecting and compiling statistics on very elderly people are more difficult than statistics on other ages, each country correct the data for a right use or may use the estimated results. In South Korea, the population data like census data, resident population data and projected population data from Korean Statistical Information Service (KOSIS) are inconsistent and insufficient for studying people aged 80 and over. In this paper, we discuss the problems of high ages in ‘The Survey results of aged over 100’ reported by Statistics Korea in 2006 and in the official population statistics in South Korea. To cope with these problems, we review the other estimating methods for high ages. And we propose supplementary ways of estimating people aged 80 and over in South Korea with the estimating results for them.
