Depressive Symptom Cluster and Suicide Ideation

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to identify depressive symptom clusters and their association with suicide ideation among depressed women across the lifespan. Data from wave 4 of the Korean longitudinal survey of women and families panel were used for analysis. Of 7,658 women enrolled in wave 4, 3,171 women who had at least mild depressive symptoms were included in the data analysis. A depressive symptom questionnaire and suicide ideation question were used. Descriptive statistics, K-means cluster analysis and ANOVA were used to describe variables, identify depressive symptom clusters and examine their association with suicide ideation. Three depressive symptom clusters were all high symptoms, hard to lead activities of daily living, and don’t enjoy life. Symptom clusters remained stable across the lifespan whereas the proportion of women with all high symptoms was the greatest in elderly women. More women in the all high symptom cluster experienced suicide ideation in the past compared to the other two symptom cluster groups. Advertising high risk depressive symptom clusters could increase the chance of identifying warning signs for suicide ideation of depressed women by their friends and families and in turn would lead to early intervention suicide prevention.
