도덕성 수준과 정신적 오염이 정화욕구 증가에 미치는 영향

국문 초록

본 연구는 신체적 오염 없이 마음이 더럽혀졌다고 느끼는 정신적 오염을 경험할 때, 개인의 도덕성 수준에 따라 정화욕구의 차이가 나타나는지 확인하였다. 사전 설문조사를 실시하여 도덕성 수준에 따라 높은 도덕성 집단과 낮은 도덕성 집단으로 선별하였고, 정신적 오염을 유발하는 비윤리적 행위 회상조건(처치집단)과 윤리적 행위 회상조건(통제집단)에 각각 무선할당 하였다. 실험참가자에게 과거 자신이 수행한 비윤리적 행위 또는 윤리적 행위를 회상하여 구체적인 기억과 감정을 적게 한 후 청결물건과 중립물건 사진을 제시하여 가치(선호도)를 평가하고, 실제 청결물건과 중립물건 중 한 가지를 선택하게 하여 정화욕구를 측정하였다. 실험 결과, 비윤리적 행위 회상조건에서 높은 도덕성 집단이 낮은 집단에 비해 청결물건에 대한 가치를 높이 평가하였다. 청결물건을 선택함에 있어서도, 비윤리적 행위 회상조건에서 높은 도덕성 집단은 낮은 집단에 비해 청결물건을 더 많이 선택하는 경향을 보였다. 이런 결과는 정신적 오염을 느낄 때, 도덕성 수준이 높을수록 정화욕구를 더 크게 경험한다는 것을 보여주는 것으로, 체화된 인지이론에 도덕성이 중요한 변인임을 시사한다.

영문 초록

This study was to investigate the effects of the morality level and mental contamination on a desire to clean. University students were divided into two group, high and low morality group by Korean-defining issues test (K-DIT) score. They were assigned to unethical events recall condition and ethical events recall condition randomly. Participants instructed to write the unethical/ethical events they recalled (for 10 minutes) in detail, assess the desirability of cleansing and neutral products and choose the one of cleansing and neutral products. As a results, high morality group assessed the desirability of cleansing products highly than low morality group in the unethical recall condition. Also, high morality group chose the cleansing products more than low morality group in the unethical recall condition. These results show that a desire to clean increase when they feel contaminated mentally without physical contact with a contaminant. The implication of this study is that morality is important to the relationship between mental contamination and the desire to clean.
