국문 초록

본 연구는 코스닥 기업공개시장에서 공개 전 공모가격 조정정도와 상장 후 초기수익률의 관계를 Benverniste and Spindt(1989)의 동태적 정보취득모형의 관점에서 분석하였다. 실증분석 결과, 확정공모가가 예정공모가보다 높게 조정된 IPO가 확정공모가가 예정공모가보다 낮게 조정된 IPO에 비해 초기수익률이 크게 나타났다. 이는 수요예측제도 하에서 예정공모가격보다 실제공모가격이 높게 설정될수록 상장 후 초기수익률이 더 크게 발생하는 부분조정현상이 유의적으로 존재함을 의미한다. 또한 수요예측시 시장상황을 상승기와 하락기로 구분하여 분석한 결과, 상승기와 하락기 모두 부분조정현상이 존재함을 확인하였다. 하지만 상승기에서의 공모가격 조정정도가 하락기에서보다 상장 후 초기수익률에 더 큰 영향을 미치고 있음을 발견하였다. 이러한 결과는 공적정보에 대해서도 부분조정현상이 존재한다는 Loughran and Ritter(2002)의 조망이론(prospect theory)적 관점을 지지하는 결과로 해석할 수 있다.

영문 초록

In this paper, I examine the relationship between the revision of the offer price of IPO during the book-building period and subsequent underpricing, based on the Benverniste and Spindt(1989) s dynamic information acquisition model. The empirical result shows that the underpricing of IPO is positively related to revision in the offer price thus supports the partial adjustment phenomenon proposed by Benverniste and Spindt(1989). Further I examine whether the state of the market affects the partial adjustment phenomenon. I find the significant positive initial return to the revision in the offer price for both upward and downward states of the market. But in upward state, the sensitivity of initial return to the revision is much larger. These results are consistent with the prediction proposed by Loughran and Ritter(2002) s prospect theory.
