국문 초록

본 연구는 초등학생의 외모만족도와 사회적 행동 특성의 관계를 살펴보기 위해서, 성별과 학년에 따른 초등학생의 외모만족도와 사회적 행동의 차이 및 외모만족도와 사회적 행동 간의 관계를 살펴보았다. 323명의 초등학생 고학년을 대상으로 조사한 결과, 외모만족도에서는 성별에 따른 차이가 없었지만, 사회적 행동에서는 성별에 따른 차이가 유의미한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 학년에 따라 외모만족도와 사회적 행동 모두 유의미한 차이가 존재하는 것으로 나타났다. 즉 남학생에 비해 여학생이 사회적 행동을 더 많이 하며, 학년이 증가할수록 자신의 외모에 대한 만족도가 낮아지고, 급격한 신체적 성장으로 인한 불안이 사회적 행동을 감소시키는 것으로 나타났다. 이와 더불어 외모만족도와 사회적 행동의 관계에서는 유의한 정적 상관을 보이며, 외모만족도가 사회적 행동에 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 사회적 행동에 있어 자신에 대한 긍정적인 외모 평가가 중요하다는 것을 시사한다.

영문 초록

This study was to examine the relationships between the characteristics of the social behaviors and the satisfaction of body-appearance of elementary school students. For this purpose, the study investigated whether there was any difference of the satisfactional degree of body-appearance and the social behaviors according to gender and grades of the primary school pupils, as well as whether there was any relationship between their satisfactional degree of body-appearance and their social behaviors. The results showed that significant difference was shown in the social behaviors but not in the satisfaction degree of body-appearance according to gender. What is more, there were significant differences in the satisfaction degree of body-appearance and the social behaviors with grades. It is suggested that girl students does more social behaviors compared with boy students; also the higher the grade is, the lower the satisfaction degree of body-appearance is; moreover, the anxiety caused by a sudden body growth may result in less social behaviors. Besides, there was positive relationship between the satisfaction degree of body-appearance and the social behaviors; and also the satisfactional degree of body-appearance had significant effects on the social behavior, which shows that positive own-body-estimation would be important to the social behavior.
