박태원 소설에 나타난 도시의 일상과 이동 경로

국문 초록

본 논문은 박태원 소설에 나타나는 이동이라는 행위 및 그에 수반되는 양상이 소설가 인물뿐 아니라 경성을 생활무대로 살아가는 모든 주변 인물들을 이동의 주체로 간주하는 분석에서 좀더 구체화된 의미를 산출할 수 있으리라는 가설로부터 시작되었다. 이에 따라 단편 ｢피로｣를 중심으로 한 박태원의 소설 속에서 관찰 주체의 이동뿐만 아니라 관찰의 대상이 되는 인물 군상의 이동이 어떠한 양상으로 드러나는지를 함께 살펴보았다. 이 과정을 통해 작가 박태원이 식민지 근대의 경성을 살아가는 다양한 계층의 일상을 어떻게 인식하고 형상화하였는지 조금 다른 각도에서 점검해 보려 했다. ｢피로｣의 서술자 ‘나’를 비롯한 박태원 소설 속 소설가 인물의 이동 양상은 관찰의 시선과 함께 드러나고, 그때그때의 인식 내용을 노출시키는 동시에 부분적으로나마 주변 인물의 이동과 그 경로까지를 함께 드러낸다. 소설가 인물의 시야에 포착된 주변 인물들의 이동 양상은 경성이라는 도시를 둘러싸고 펼쳐지는 각양각색의 삶의 모습을 고스란히 담고 있는 것이다. 일과 가정, 여가 등으로 구성되는 일상의 세목이 다양한 계층의 사람들에게 여하히 전유되거나 결여되어 있는가에 따라 점유 가능한 공간과 이동의 경로 및 수단에 차이가 나고, 이는 일정한 차별이나 소외가 발생하는 계기가 된다. 가난한 소설가는 물론 자유롭고 효율적인 이동에 제약을 느끼는 여성, 노약자, 시골사람 등 근대 도시의 저변에 머물러 있는 소외된 인간군상의 삶이 작가 박태원의 주요한 관심사였음을 이를 통해 확인할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This paper is based on the hypothesis that the behavior of movement and its accompanying aspects appearing in Park Tae-won’s novels can yield more specific meaning in the analysis that considers not only novelist characters but also all surrounding people as subjects of movement. In Park Tae-won novels such as Fatigue, I analyzed not only the movement of the subject of observation but also how the movement of the group of characters to be observed is revealed. Through this process, I tried to examine how Park Tae-won recognized and shaped the everyday life of various classes living in Gyeongseong, a colonial modern city, from a slightly different angle. The movements of novelist characters in Park Tae-won’s novels such as ‘I’ in Fatigue are revealed with the gaze of observation, and exposes the perceptions of each time and at the same time partially reveals the movements of the surrounding people and their paths. The movement pattern of the surrounding characters captured in the novelist’s view is to contain the various aspects of life unfolding around the city of Gyeongseong. Depending on how the elements of everyday life, consisting of work, family, and leisure, are owned or lacking for people of various classes, there are many differences in the places and paths and methods of movement. This can be the reason for a certain discrimination or alienation. It can be confirmed through the fact that the life of the alienated human group, who resides in the modern city, such as poor novelists and women who are limited in free and efficient movement, elderly people and rural people, was the main concern of the writer Park Tae-won.
