국문 초록

작자 미상의 ｢仙遊洞記｣는 ｢허생고사｣를 모티프로 하면서, 北伐 담론에 대한 첨예한 비판을 담은 작품이다. 이 작품은 조선 후기 서사 양식의 변화 과정을 입증하고, 북벌 담론의 추이를 보여주는 자료로서 주목된 바 있다. 선행연구에서는 작품의 문학사적 의의와 시대적 위상을 밝혔지만, 작품 자체의 메시지, 즉 북벌에 대한 강력한 비판과 그 층위까지 세심하게 살피지는 못했다고 생각된다. 북벌 담론은 애초부터 부실한 근거와 어설픈 정세 판단을 바탕으로 제출되었다. 그 취약성으로 말미암아 정치적 수단으로 전락한 이 담론은, 반박할 수 없는 定論으로 자리매김하면서 사족들의 강고한 화이관을 정립하는 데에 기여했다. ｢선유동기｣에서는 북벌의 준비와 계획에 관여한 인물들의 발언을 통해 이러한 허위를 다각도로 들춰낸다. 그것은 사족 사회에서 용인될 수 없는 위험한 사유였던 까닭에, 現實과 仙界를 넘나드는 ‘선유동’이라는 공간 설정을 통해 은폐된다. 이는 ｢허생고사｣ 계열 다른 작품의 북벌에 대한 비판적 시각과는 유의미한 차이를 보이는 지점이다. 그런 점에서 ｢선유동기｣는 당시의 사회에 광범위하게 침투하기 시작한 북벌에 대한 비판적 인식의 가장 깊숙한 단면을 보여주는 작품이라 할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

｢Seon-yu-dong-gi｣ of unknown author is motifing ｢stories about Heo-saeng｣, and contains sharp criticism of the northern subjugation. This work was noted as a testament to the changing process of the style of narrative in the late Joseon Dynasty and as a demonstration of the trend of the northern subjugation. The preceding study revealed the significance of the work s literary history and the status of the times. However, the study did not carefully examine the message of the work itself, namely the strong criticism of the northern subjugation and its level. The northern subjugation was based from the outset on poor grounds and poor judgment of the times. The discourse, which was reduced to political means by its vulnerability, has helped establish the strong viewpoint of Hwa-yi of Joseon s ruling class by establishing itself as an irrefutable discussion. ｢Seon-yu-dong-gi｣ reveals this falsehood in various ways through comments by figures involved in the preparation and planning of the northern subjugation. Since it was an unacceptable and dangerous cause in a Joseon s ruling class, it is covered up by the establishment of a space called ‘Seon-yu-dong’ that crosses between 現實(reality) and 仙界(taoist hermit s world). This is a significant difference from the critical view of the northern subjugation in other works of ｢stories about Heo- saeng｣. In this regard, ｢Seon-yu-dong-gi｣ represents the deepest cross-section of the critical perception of the northern subjugation, which began to infiltrate society extensively at that time.
