국문 초록

이 논문에서는 1997년부터 2018년까지의 월별 데이터를 사용하여 경제성장과 부문별 에너지소비 간의 인과관계를 그랜저 인과검정과 비모수 분위수 인과검정을 이용하여 분석하였다. 부문별 에너지소비와 경제성장 간의 그랜저 인과검정 결과에서는 5% 유의수준을 기준으로 경제성장률이 산업부문과 수송부문의 에너지소비 변화율을 그랜저 인과하며, 반대 방향으로는 인과하지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 가정ㆍ상업부문은 에너지소비 변화율과 경제성장률 간 양방향의 인과관계가 나타났다. 공공부문에서는 에너지소비 변화율과 경제성장률 사이에는 아무런 인과관계가 성립하지 않았다. 한편 비모수 분위수 인과관계 검정에서는 산업부문 및 수송부문의 경우 약 0.6 이상의 분위수 구간에서 경제성장률이 에너지소비 변화율을 인과하며 그 역의 관계는 모든 분위에서 성립하지 않았다. 가정ㆍ상업부문에서는 약 0.9 이상의 분위수에서 경제성장률이 에너지소비 변화율을 인과하는 것으로 나타났으며, 그 반대의 경우는 모든 분위수에서 인과관계가 나타나지 않았다. 공공부문에서는 경제성장률과 에너지소비 변화율 사이에 양방향 모두 인과관계가 나타나지 안았다. 결과적으로 산업부문 및 수송부문의 경우 경제성장이 에너지소비를 증가시킨다는 성장가설을, 공공부문의 경우에는 에너지소비와 경제성장 간에는 인과관계가 없다는 중립가설을 지지하는 것으로 볼 수 있었고, 가정ㆍ상업부문의 경우는 두 인과검정의 결과가 다르게 나타나 특정 가설을 따른다고 결론내릴 수 없었다.

영문 초록

In this paper, we analyze the relationship between the sectoral energy consumption and economic growth using Granger causality test and nonparametric quantile causality test from 1997 to 2018. The results show that economic growth rate Granger causes the rate of change in energy consumption for the industrial and transport sectors at the 5% significance level, but not vice versa. However, no causality is revealed in the public sector. For the residential-commercial sector, there is a bi-directional causality between two variables. In the nonparametric quantile causality test, the economic growth rate is causally related to the rate of changes in energy consumption in above 0.6 quantiles in the industrial and transport sectors, but not vice versa for all quantiles. For the public sector, there exists no causal relationship between the two variables. In the case of the residential-commercial sector, the economic growth rate causes the rate of change in energy consumption in above 0.9 quantiles, but not vice versa. It is different from the result of the Granger causality test that there is the bi-directional causality between the two variables. Overall, we conclude that the test results in the industrial and the transport sectors support the growth hypothesis, and the results in the public sector support neutrality hypothesis.
