본풀이의 ‘경쟁 화소’와 ‘일월조정 화소’에 나타난 자원에 대한 인식과 분배 방식 연구

국문 초록

본 연구는 제주도의 본풀이인 <천지왕본풀이>, <할망본풀이>, <마누라본풀이>에 나타나는 ‘경쟁 화소’와 ‘일월조정 화소’가 ‘자원’의 문제를 다루고 있다는 점에서 현대 사회에서 어떻게 재해석될 수 있는지 논의한 것이다. 이들 이야기에서 주체들의 경쟁은 특정 신직(神職)을 차지하기 위해, 혹은 자기 신직의 우위를 점하기 위하여 일어난다. 이는 각각 인간이 가지고자 하는 어떤 것, 그리고 가진 것을 바탕으로 남보다 우위에 서려는 상황을 반영한다. 그리고 동시에 그것은 자원 획득과 자원 분배를 둘러싸고 일어나는 인간 사회의 다양한 상황들을 은유하기도 한다. 2장 1절에서는 <천지왕본풀이>를 대상으로, ‘누가 더 좋은 것을 차지할 수 있는가?’를 논의한다. 이승이 저승보다 더 좋은 것으로 인식되는 이유를 찾고, 이승과 저승의 특성이 경쟁 주체의 행위에 연결되고 있음을 밝힌다. 2장 2절의 <할망본풀이>에서는 ‘누가 그것을 가질 수 있는가?’를 논의한다. 자원의 가치보다는 소유자의 자격 요건에 집중하는 이야기이므로 <천지왕본풀이>에서 문제되었던 자원 분배의 윤리적 부당성을 해결한다. 그러나 <할망본풀이>는 정당하게 자원이 분배되더라도 필연적으로 발생하는 불균형의 문제를 제기하면서 공존과 상생의 필요를 강조한다. 2장 3절의 <마누라본풀이>에서는 ‘무엇을 가진 자가 우위에 설 수 있는가?’를 논의한다. 서로 반대되는 직능을 가진 생불할망과 대별상의 대립은 서로 다른 목적을 가진 자원 소유자 간의 다툼을 비유하며, 이들의 화해 과정은 갈등의 해소를 위하여 우리가 고려해야 할 가치가 무엇인지를 제시한다. 한편, <천지왕본풀이>의 일월조정 화소는 해와 달의 과잉 상태를 다루는데, 해와 달은 획득의 대상이 될 수 없다는 점에서 자원의 경쟁성과 배제성을 벗어나는 ‘공공 자원’이라 할 수 있다. 공공 자원은 특정한 소유자가 없지만 그 혜택을 받는 모두가 주인이 된다는 점에서 그 상태에 문제가 생겼을 경우에 즉각적인 해결이 어렵다. 본풀이의 일월조정 화소는 공공 자원의 과소 혹은 과잉 상태에서 초래되는 자연환경의 문제 상황을 제시한다는 점에서 현대 사회의 맥락에서 새롭게 해석될 여지가 있으며, 그것은 인류 공존에 필요한 균형을 시사한다.

영문 초록

This study attempts a modern reinterpretation of the Rivalry motifs and the Adjusting numbers of Sun and Moon motifs appeared in Jeju island myths. Especially, I focused on the myths , and that have the above motifs. The Rivalry motifs are found in the competitions between agents to get a certain God’s status or to gain the upper hand. The competition of getting a certain God’s status means that people want to take something like resources and the competition of gaining the upper hand means the conflicts for their leadership between people. That is, these situations are metaphors for the various conditions of human society where occurred with an acquisition and distribution of resources. Firstly, I discuss ‘Who can get the better thing?’ in chapter 2 section 1 focusing on . And I show the reason why ‘this world’ is better than ‘the next world’, then I prove that these worlds’ features are related to the acts of agents in the story. Secondly, I argue that ‘Who can get the thing?’ in chapter 2 section 2 with . Here, the competition of agents is zoomed in on ‘the qualification requirement of the resource owner’ than ‘the worth of resource’ which they want to get. Therefore, the problem of the unjust distribution of resources in is solved properly in . But also emphasizes the necessity for coexistence, bringing up a problem of an unavoidable imbalance to be generated although the resources are distributed reasonably to each agents in . Thirdly, I discuss ‘What the one who has can occupy the upper?’ in chapter 2 section 3 focusing on . Here, the conflict between god and goddess who each has opposite function means competition between the resource owners who have different purposes in human society. And the process of their reconciliation shows what kind of virtues should we consider for the solution of the conflict. Meanwhile, ‘the Adjusting numbers of Sun and Moon motifs’ in implies excessive situation of resources. The sun and moon mean a kind of ‘public goods’ which can’t be objects of acquisition and do not have a rivalry and excludability of private goods as general resources. Although ‘public goods’ do not belong to anyone, they can benefit everyone. So ironically, it is difficult to solve it promptly when a problem occurs using them. And ‘The Adjusting numbers of Sun and Moon motifs’ of bonpuri can be interpreted newly because it suggests an issue about our environmental problems caused in the excessive and lacking situation of resources. Finally these motifs of the stories show the important of balance for our coexistence.
