영어의 한글 표기 및 그 리듬과 운율의 분석적 연구

국문 초록

이 논문은 초등학교 학생들이 처음 익히는 초급 수준의 짤막한 영어 문장들 약 30개룰 리듬, 운율 분석하면서 영어의 운율구조가 어떠한가를 살펴보도록 하겠다. ‘리듬’이 무엇인가를 정의 내린다면, 리듬은 ‘길고 짧은 소리(박(搏)=beat)가 모여 이루어진 박자(拍子= time. meter, foot)가 일정한 템포를 지닌 채 무리를 지어 규칙적으로 반복되는 소리의 흐름’이다. 이 리듬에 억양(intonation)이 얹힌 것을 언어학에서는 대체로 ‘운율’(prosody)이라고 부른다. 즉, 단어나 구절, 문장의 발화시, 그 의미를 변화시켜 주는 운소(성조, 강세, 음장)가 음절에 얹히면 인간의 언어는 자연스러운 ‘리듬’과 ‘운율’이 생성된다고 하겠다. 영어는 로마자로 표기되는 언어이지만, 한글로 영어를 음절식 표기를 하게 되면 강세가 배당되면서 리듬과 운율을 형성하는 영어의 다이내믹한 억양 구조를 잘 파악할 수 있다. 영어에는 있고 한국어에는 없는 자음으로 [f]를 ‘ㆄ’으로, [v]를 ‘ㅸ’으로, [l]을 ‘ᄙᅠ’로 적을 수 있다. 또한 th로 표기되는 영어의 ‘유성 치간 마찰음’ [ð]을 ‘ㅼ’으로, ‘무성 치간 마찰음’ [Ɵ]을 ‘ꥢᅠ’으로 적을 수 있다. 그리고 영어의 모음 [ʌ]는 ‘ᅟힹ’로, [ɔ] 는‘ ᅟᅶ’ 또는 ‘ ᅟᅿ’로 적을 수 있다. 영어에는 주로 ‘2박 한박자 리듬꼴’로는 {장끼}, {부엉}이 많이 나타나고 드물게 {오리}라는 리듬꼴도 나타난다. ‘3박 한박자 리듬꼴’로는 {독수리}, {기러기}, {비둘기}가 많이 나타나고 드물게 {종달새}라는 리듬꼴도 나타난다. ‘4박 한박자 리듬꼴’로는 {해오라기}, {쇠뜸부기}, {집비둘기} 등이 많이 나타나고 가끔 {흰물떼새}라는 리듬꼴도 나타난다. 간간히 ‘5박 한박자 리듬꼴’로 {호랑지빠귀}, {흰꼬리수리}, {회색기러기}, {제비갈매기}, {수리부엉이} 등이 나타나는데, {노랑할미새}라는 리듬꼴은 거의 나타나지 않는다. 그리고 ‘1박 반박자 리듬꼴’인 {닭}과 ‘2박 반박자 리듬꼴’인 {나비}라는 리듬꼴도 자주 나타나는데, 이 ‘반박자 리듬꼴’은 선행하는 다양한 종류의 ‘한박자 리듬꼴’들과 함께 다양한 종류의 ‘한박자반 리듬꼴’을 만드는 과정이 매우 흥미롭다. 영어에 나타나는 많은 종류의 리듬꼴들은 그 리듬꼴을 구성하는 음절박(syllabic beat) 어느 하나에 ‘제1강세’나 ‘제2강세’가 어떻게 얹히는가에 따라, {두고형}, {약두고형}, {중고형}, {약중고형}, {중저형}, {미고형}, {약미고형}, {번개형}, {물결형} 같은 다양한 종류의 운율형으로 변신한다. 그리고 대체로 하나의 ‘리듬꼴’에는 제1강세나 제2강세 중 어느 하나의 강세만 배당되는 것이 원칙이다.

영문 초록

This paper examines the rhythm structure of English by analyzing the rhythm and prosody of about 30 simple English sentences that elementary students first learn. If you define what rhythm is, rhythm repeats it regularly in groups with a certain tempo of beats of long and short sounds. is the flow of sound. The intonation of this rhythm is often called prosody in linguistics. In other words, when words, phrases, or sentences are spoken, rhymes and accents, which change their meanings, are placed on syllables, creating a natural rhythm and prosody. English is written in Roman letters, but if you write English syllables in Korean alphabet, you can grasp the dynamic accent structure of English that forms rhythms and rhymes as stress is allocated. You can write [f] as ㆄ , [v] as ㅸ , and [l] as ᄙ ᅠ as consonants in English but not in Korean. In addition, the English word for thoracic interdental friction [ð] can be written as “ㅼ,” and the “silent interdental friction” [Ɵ] as “ꥢ ᅠ.”And the English vowel [ʌ] can be written as ᅟ ힹ and [ɔ] can be written as ‘ or ᅟ ᅿ . In English, there are many {jangki} and {bueong} as ‘two-beat rhythms’ and rarely rhythms called {ori}. As for the three-beat rhythm, {eagles}, {wild goose} and {pigeon} appear a lot, and in rare cases, {lark}. As for the four-beat rhythmic form, {egrets}, {ebbs} and {pigeon dove} appear frequently, and sometimes a rhythm called {white bird}. The horned rhythm of the five-beatt rhythm often includes {tiger tail}, {white-tailed eagle}, {gray goose}, {ternary gull}, and {eagle owl}. In addition, the rhythm of {chick}, which is a one-beat accompaniment rhythm, and {butterfly}, which is a two-beat accompaniment rhythm, often appears. The process of creating a kind of rhythm is very interesting. Many types of rhythms appearing in English, depending on how the first accent or second accent is placed on one of the syllabic beats that make up the rhythm. Transformation into various types of prosody, such as {medium and solid}, {medium and medium solid}, {medium and low solid state}, {medium solid}, {weak and solid solid state}, {lightning type} and {wave form}. In general, one rhythm form is allocated to only one of the first and second accents.
