김조규 시의 공간적 특성과 소재 상관성 연구

국문 초록

김조규의 시에는 황혼, 밤, 창, 바다, 항구, 기차, 역 등 반복적으로 활용되는 시적 소재들이 있다. 각각의 소재는 시의 형식과 내용 차원에서 유기적으로 연계되어 있으며, 궁극에는 김조규 시세계의 중요한 미학적 특성을 제공한다. 그럼에도 일부의 선행연구들은 김조규 시의 소재적 특성을 다소 단순화하여 취급한 혐의가 없지 않다. 그 결과 그의 시가 내장한 이미지의 배치, 공간적 의미, 시어 계열군의 상관성과 같은 심층적 요소들을 온전하게 드러내는 데에는 일정한 한계를 보인다. 본고는 김조규의 만주체류 시절 발표 작품을 중심으로 그의 시의 공간적 의미와 소재적 상관성을 집중적으로 살펴보고자 한다. 먼저 김조규의 시세계에서 밤의 공간은 기차와 바다를 자주 매개하는데, 이는 민코브스키가 언급한 대로 어둠이 지닌 고유의 <물질적> 특성과 유기적으로 결합하여 독특한 분위기 및 시적 정서를 창출한다. 뿐만 아니라 밤의 공간에서 바다는 구속이 없는 자유와 행복했던 추억을 동시에 드러내는 긍정적인 의미를 지닌다. 밤은 부정적인 현실의 억압 그 자체를 드러내기도 하지만 그것의 본래적 특성인 <적막>과 <적요>는 서정적 주체의 우울한 감정 해소와 내면의 정화를 유도함으로써, 일시적으로나마 유랑민의 비극적 정체성을 잊게 하거나 스스로를 치유하는 기능으로 작용하는 것이다. 만주국은 일제의 조작된 이데올로기가 전 방위적으로 작동하는 장소이기도 하지만, 피지배층인 유랑민에게 그것은 엄연한 국체로서 존재하는 이중적 공간이다. 따라서 이들에게 만주국은 저항의 대상이면서 동시에 순응할 수밖에 없었던 생활의 터전이다. 김조규는 이러한 만주국의 모순적 실체를 역설적이게도 <낮의 공간성>으로 시화하고, 이 과정에서 왕도낙토(王道樂土)와 오족협화(五族協和)라는 왜곡된 이데올로기를 적시하여 부정적으로 형상화하고 있다. <어스름한 공간>에 놓인 기차역을 소재로 한 김조규의 시에는 타자에 대한 연민과 휴머니즘이 매우 구체적으로 드러난다. <밤의 공간(성)>이 유랑민으로서의 고단한 삶을 잠시 잊고 내적 충만함과 고유 정체성을 회복, 그리하여 가혹한 현실<낮의 공간(성)>을 버틸 수 있는 힘과 여유를 얻었다면, 어스름한 시공간의 기차역에서 김조규의 시적 주체들은 불행한 타자에 대한 공감과 연민을 드러내는 멜랑콜리한 모습을 보임으로써 최종적으로 공동체를 지향하는 태도를 보인다.

영문 초록

Kim Jo-kyu s poems include repeatedly used poetic materials such as dusk, night, window, sea, port, train and station. Each material is organically linked in terms of the form and content of the poem, ultimately providing an important aesthetic characteristic of the Kim Jo-kyu’s poetry world. Nevertheless, prior studies are suspected of treating Kim Jo-kyu with a simplified version of his material characteristics. As a result, the in-depth features, intended by his poem, such as the placement of images, spatial meaning and correlation of the poetic diction’s affiliation are not fully revealed. This paper will examine carefully the spatial meaning of Kim Jo-kyu’s poetry and material correlation, focusing on works which is published when he was in Manchuria. First, the night space in Kim Jo-kyu’s poetry world frequently interacts trains and oceans, which, as Minkowski mentioned, works organically with the inherent “materialistic” nature of darkness to create a unique sentiment and poetic atmosphere. In addition, in the night space, the sea has a positive meaning that reveals both freedom and happy memories. Night reveals the oppression of negative reality itself, but night’s inherent features, such as “silence” and “desolate”, serve as the poetic subject to vent his sad feelings and immerse himself in the mood of that emotion, allowing him to forget his miserable identity as a wandering soul for a while and to be able to heal himself. Although Manchuria is also a place where Japan s doctored ideology is actively used, it is a place with a double meaning that exists as a solemn political system of a country for the people of the ruling class. For them, therefore, it is a place of life that has been subject to resistance and forced to adapt at the same time. Kim Jo-kyu poeticizes the contradictory reality of Manchuria as “daytime space”, and, in the process, he portrays negativity combining the ideology of Wang Do-nak-toh and Five Peoples Unity. Kim Jo-kyu’s poem about a train station in the “dusky space” reveals his compassion for the others and humanism most specifically. If “the night space” has the power and composure to forget for a while the hard life as a wandering person and restore its inner fullness and unique identity, so that it can withstand harsh reality “daytime sapce”, Kim Jo-kyu’s lyrical subjects show a attitude of community aim by showing empathy and compassion for the unfortunate others in the train station during the dim hours.
