향가 <헌화가>에 나타난 기원(祈願)의 표출양상

국문 초록

<헌화가>는 『삼국유사』 권2 「수로부인 조(條)」에 실려서 널리 회자되어 온 노래이면서 동시에 여러 숨겨진 모티프를 가지고 있다. 사연의 불확실성과 특별한 인과가 존재하지 않는 이야기임에도 불구하고 후대에도 지속적으로 전달되고 있다. 또한 최근에는 문화콘텐츠로의 활용 가능성을 보여 주면서 관심이 증폭되었다. 이처럼 <헌화가>에는 향가로서의 성격 뿐만 아니라 작품내에는 특수한 메시지가 존재하고 있다. <헌화가>는 단순히 애정을 구하는 노래가 아니라 풍요(豊饒)와 번영(繁榮)을 기원하는 신라인의 성의식과 기원의식을 보여주는 한 단면이다. 또한 배경설화에 나오는 노옹은 샤먼의 역할을 하고 있으며 제의를 주관하는 중심인물이다. 이를 통해 수로부인의 소망을 빌어주는 동시에 신라인들이 지닌 소망과 기원을 표상할 수 있는 인물이다. <헌화가>는 풍농, 풍어의 다산적 제의와 안전행로, 집단의 안녕 등 복합적 의미의 기원을 엿볼 수 있으며, 아울러 제의에 집단 구성원들도 동참하고 있다는 것을 짐작할 수 있다. <헌화가>는 표면상으로는 애정문제로 바라볼 수 있지만 실상은 신라인의 절절한 기원(祈願)을 담은 노래이다. 이러한 작업을 통해 신라인의 의식 세계는 물론 오늘날 우리가 추구하는 삶의 근원적 기원양상을 살펴보는 계기가 되었다.

영문 초록

has several hidden motifs as well as is a song that has been in everyone s mouth, being included in Lady Suro s Legend of Volume II of Samgukyusa. Although the story has uncertainty and is a one that does not contain a particular causal relationship, it is being constantly passed down to posterity. In addition, it recently has shown potential as cultural content, and the public interest in it has increased. In this way, it contains a special message as well as has some characteristics of a Hyangga. It is not a mere song that seeks affection, but is a cross section that shows the sexual consciousness and prayer rites of Silla people wishing for abundance(豊饒) and prosperity(繁榮). And the aged man who appears in the background legendary plays a role as a shaman and is the central figure leading worship rituals. By doing so, the figure can represent their hopes and wishes on behalf of them as well as make wishes of Lady Suro. As for the song, we can get a taste of rites of fecundity(e.g. a good harvest, a good haul of fish) and wishes with multiple meanings(e.g. safe living, public peace). In addition, we can suppose the members of the group are also participating in the rites. By all appearances, it can be seen that it deals with affection problems, but actually is a song containing Silla people s ardent wishes(祈願). Such task gave an opportunity to look at the underlying aspects of whishes of the life we pursue today, not to mention Silla people s consciousness.
