융복합 교육으로서의 과학 교양교육

국문 초록

본 논문에서는 시대정신으로서 융복합 교양교육을 과학 융복합 교양교육을 통해 검토한 후, 과학 융복합 교양교육이 나아갈 방향을 모색하고자 한다. 이러한 논의의 중심에는 STEAM 교육과 과학 융복합 교양교육의 접목, 그리고 융복합적 글쓰기를 통해 소통을 강화하려는 시도가 있음을 논의할 것이다. 또한 동국대의 진행 사례를 들어 과학 융복합 교양교육의 특징에 대한 검토로 나아갈 것이다. 이러한 논의를 통해 동국대의 과학 융복합 교양교과목의 특징을 세 가지로 요약할 것이다. 첫째, 문·이과 분리의 폐해가 매우 심각하다는 데 문제의식을 공유하며, 이러한 폐해를 과학 융복합 교양교육을 통해 해결하려 한다는 것이다. 이는 생명과 마음의 문제를 과학적으로 설명하고 인문학적으로 성찰할 수 있는 교과목들에서 분명해진다. 둘째, 동국대는 종립 대학으로서 학생 개개인이 자신의 심성을 스스로 돌이켜 볼 수 있도록 불교 정신을 융복합 교과목 속에서 구현하려고 한다는 것이 가장 큰 특징이다. 과학과 인문학의 융합을 통해서 이런 특징들이 어떻게 구현될 수 있는지를 사례를 들어 설명한다. 셋째, ‘인간’을 위한 융합 교육은 인간 자신을 탐구하는 학문이며, 따라서 과학 융복합 교양교육은 인간학을 지향하는 것을 그 특징으로 한다는 것이다. 결국 융합이란 자신이 마주한 한계적 질문을 앞에 두고서, 융복합적 글쓰기를 통해 이 문제를 해결하려는 노력으로 구체화되는 것이다.

영문 초록

In this paper, we review the converging general education as the spirit of the age by the science in general education, then we would research the direction which the science in general education should go toward. We would address that there are the conjunction between STEAM and the science in general education, and the attempt to intensify the communication through the converging writing. Also by examples from Dongguk University, we would examine how the science in general education could be characterized We summarize characteristics of examples from Dongguk University by giving its three ideas. First, we hold in common for bad influences of two cultures, these influences should be solved through the science in converging education. It is obvious at the educational courses which are explained by the science and reflected by the philosophy and the humanities. Second, since the institute for Buddhist studies for students to introspect their born-nature by themselves, it is very distinctive to embody the spirit of Buddhist in the converging educational courses. We would explain by examples through the convergence of the science and the humanities how these features could be embodied. Third, the converging education for ‘human’ is the study for investigating by themselves, then it also is distinctive to accomplish the anthropology. After all, what the convergence is, while confronting the ultimate question by themselves, it is concretized by the attempt to solve this question through the converging writing.
