교육계몽 운동으로서 새마을운동의 특성과 의의

국문 초록

우리의 학교교육 상황은 새로운 믿음구조를 통한 패러다임의 재정립에 직면해 있다. 치열한 입시와 시험위주의 학력주의 풍토에서 수월성과 효율성 중심의 성취지향교육이 강조된다. 개별성, 창의성, 다원성 등이 핵심가치로 부각되는 지식정보화 사회에서도 명문대중심의 학력주의 경향은 확대·심화되고 있다. 이런 상황에서 학교교육을 둘러싼 새로운 패러다임 정립이 요청된다. 이 글은 새마을운동의 관점에서 지식정보화에 걸맞은 학교교육의 새로운 패러다임을 타진한다. 새마을운동은 전통적 농경사회를 배경으로 정신적 계몽운동을 전개하였고, 그에 토대해 근대적 산업사회에 적합한 사회질서구조를 창출하고자 하였다. 이 글은 교육계몽 운동의 차원에서 새마을운동의 목적과 성격을 검토하여 새마을운동의 교육적 특성을 밝힌다. 이를 통해 지식정보사회의 도래에 적합한 새마을운동의 교육적 의의에 대해서도 재조명을 시도한다.

영문 초록

Today the situation of our school education are faced with a paradigm shift. In the entrance-and test-oriented educational situation, the excellence-and efficiency-driven education is emphasized toward only one way. Individuality, creativity, diversity, etc. are considered to be the core values in the age of knowledge and information society. The credentialism for entering prestigious universities has been more dominant. Establishment of a new paradigm surrounding school education could come out as a significant educational value. In this paper, we are trying to review the new paradigm of the school education based on Saemaul movement. Because Saemaul movement has contributed the spiritual enlightenment and consciousness reform in the context of the traditional agricultural society, and it has been an important role for creating a newly social structure. In this paper, we deal with the characteristics of Saemaul movement in terms of the educational enlightenment movement, and we explore the nature of the Saemaul movement by examining the significance and goals of Saemaul education. Finally, we are trying to shed new light on the Saemaul movement and education by considering the advent of the knowledge-based society.
