국문 초록

본고는 염상섭의 소설 창작에서 재도일의 의미를 1920년대 조선에서의 자본주의 경제 현실과 관련하여 구명해보고자 하였다. 특히, 염상섭의 농촌소설인 ｢두 출발｣에 주목하여 1920년대 중반 이후 민족주의 경제학의 인식이 어떻게 소설적 형상화에 영향을 미쳤는지 살펴보았다. 이 시기의 민족주의 경제학은 농촌문제연구, 자치운동 등과 맞물려 민족의 활로를 찾고자 노력하였으며, 이러한 사실은 ｢두 출발｣이 실린 현대평론의 위상과 관련지을 때 보다 분명히 드러난다. 현대평론은 조선사정조사연구회, 신간회 등 당시의 좌파 민족주의 단체와 밀접한 관련을 맺으면서 움직이고 있기 때문이다. 이러한 사실은 문학사적 맥락에서 이 소설에 등장하는 이야기꾼의 형상을 살펴볼 때에도 유의미한 점을 시사한다. 본격적으로 자본주의 경제가 도입되던 1920년대에는 염상섭 소설에서뿐 아니라 당대의 다른 소설에도 이야기꾼이 공동체의 흔적으로 등장하는데, 이들 이야기꾼과 비교하여「두 출발」의 의미를 생각해보면, 이 시기의 소설들이 서구적인 소설 양식을 넘어서 다양한 형태의 소설적 가능성을 보여주고 있음을 알 수 있다.

영문 초록

This essay tried to study the meaning of revisiting Japan in Yeom Sang-seop’s fiction creation in connection with the 1920s’ Chosun’s capitalistic economic reality. Especially, it investigated how the nationalistic economics’s thought after the middle 1920s influenced on fictional figuration in Yeom’s rural fiction “two departures”. The nationalistic economics of those time tried to find the way out for the nation with regard to the rural problems and the autonomy movements, which comes out clearly in connection with the status of The Contemporary Review where “two departures” was published. The Contemporary Review was managed related closely with the leftist nationalistic group such as shinganhoe, chosun-research-survey-association, shinganhoe. That fact implies the meaningful things when considering the storyteller motif in “two departures” in the literary history. The storyteller characters as the trace of community came on in the fictions in 1920s, when the full-scale capitalism was introduced to Chosun. When considering the topic of “two departures” with regard to those storytellers, we can know that those times’ fictions showed the various forms of potentials beyond the novel, mode of European fiction.
