국문 초록

이 논문은 조선출판경찰월보에 수록된 검열 문서 중 재일조선인들이 제작한 삐라들에 나타나는 재일조선인들의 민족의식을 살폈다. 민족성은 맥락에 달라질 수 있음을 밝힌 비제이 프리샤드의 논의는 이 논문에서 삐라에 나타난 재일조선인의 민족의식을 분석하는 방법론이었다. 또한 일본과 조선의 법역과 문역의 격차는 조선에 거주하는 조선인들과 다른 ‘재일조선인’들의 담론적 특성을 규명하기 위해 고려되었다. 조선출판경찰보와 출판경찰보가 검열한 재일조선인 삐라의 수와 조선출판경찰월보에 게재된 조선에서 간행된 조선인들의 삐라의 불온성은 조선과 일본의 법역과 문역의 차를 단적으로 보여주는 사례이다. 원산 총파업과 메이데이 기념 삐라를 중심으로 살펴본 재일조선인들의 삐라는 민족 연대와 국제적 계급 연대를 동시에 주장함으로서 두 의제가 별개가 아님을 내용과 형식을 통해 나타냈다. 재일조선인들은 이러한 성격을 가진 삐라를 활용하여 그들이 지향하는 혁명성을 민족주의와 국제주의의 수사를 동시에 활용하여 드러내었다.

영문 초록

This article examines the national consciousness of Korean residents in Japan during the colonial period (1910-1945) as it was articulated in Korean-language pamphlets imported to the Korean peninsula by Korean residents in Japan, and subsequently appeared in Colonial Korea Publication Police Monthly. I analyze resident Koreans’ national consciousness in pamphlets following Vijay Prashad’s methodology, whereby the meaning of nation varies according to context. Further, I consider the legal discrepancies permitting dissent differentially between Japan and colonial Korea in order to articulate the singularity of resident Koreans’ discourse. I introduce this distinction with two examples: first, the discrete number of censored resident Korean pamphlets between Colonial Korea Publication Police Monthly in colonial Korea and Publication Police Reports in Japan; and second, the qualitative level of rebellious sentiment expressed in pamphlets published in colonial Korea. Resident Korean pamphlets which discuss the 1929 Wŏnsan General Strike and May Day celebrations suggest that nationalist solidarity and international class solidarity are not mutually exclusive, as the pamphlets insist on both simultaneously with contents and forms. Through such pamphlets, resident Koreans reveal their defiance against imperialism and capitalism together with both nationalist and internationalist rhetoric.
