국문 초록

이 글은 북조선의 역사지식이 한국사회에 유포되는 사회적 맥락을 살펴보았다. 그리고 그에 대한 한국사 학계의 대응을 민중사학을 중심으로 분석하며 의미를 되새겨 보았다. 북측의 역사지식이 한국사회에 유입되어 확산되는 과정은 학계나 출판계의 요구가 아니었다. 민주화운동의 과정에서 NL진영의 영향력이 운동권 내에서 급속히 확장되는 과정과 맞물려 있었다. 북측의 역사지식은 1960,70년대와 달리 공개 출판물로 급속히 유포되었다. 개인의 지적 호기심을 넘어 사회적 실천의 일환이었다는 점에서 과거와 달랐다. 한국사 학계에서 여기에 적극 반응한 그룹은 역사발전과 변혁의 주체로서 민중론에 입각하여 민중사학을 표방하던 신진 연구자들이었다. 그들은 북조선산 지식을 비판적으로 수용하였다. 반공이념에 사로잡혀 무조건 비판하거나 부정하지 않았다. 이즈음부터 한국사회는 한국현대사에서 북측의 역사를 부분적으로 담아내기 시작하였다. 남측만의 자족적인 시야에서 벗어나 한반도 전체를 시야에 넣는 역사적 접근이 정착하고, ‘北傀’라는 말을 가급적 사용하지 않고 ‘北韓’이란 용어를 더 많이 사용하였다. 새로운 접근방식의 정착과 변화는 한국인이 ‘북방’을 다시 상상하고 말할 수 있는 준비된 내적 토대였다. 역사학만이 아니라 한국사회가 우리 안의 식민주의를 극복하고 구조적으로 넘어서려는 새로운 지평을 열어젖혔다.

영문 초록

This paper examined the social context in which the historical knowledge of North Korea is spread to Korean society. And I analyzed the meaning of Korean society’s response to it by focusing on the people history. The process by which North’s historical knowledge was introduced into Korean society and spreading was not a requirement of academia or publishing. In the course of the democratization movement, the influence of the NL camp was intertwined with the process of rapid expansion within the movement. Unlike the 1960s and 1970s, the North’s historical knowledge rapidly spread to public publications. It was different from the past in that it was part of social practice beyond individual intellectual curiosity. The group that actively responded here in the Korean history academic world was the new face researchers who folk scholars based on the Minjung theory as the subject of historical development and transformation. They critically accepted the North’s historical knowledge. It was caught in anti-communism and did not criticize or deny it unconditionally. From this time on, Korean society has begun to reveal the history of North Korea in Korean modern history partly. The historical approach of putting the whole of the Korean Peninsula into view is settled. Also, the term ‘North Korean puppetry(北傀)’ was not used as much as possible and the term ‘North Korea(北韓)’ was used more frequently.
