국문 초록

우리의 전통문양은 유(儒), 불(佛), 선(仙)의 신앙적 정서가 지배적이기에, 인간의 정서가 종교적으로 풍요로운 생활을 기원하고 자연의 이치에 순응하는 삶의 자세에서 문양이 사용되었다. 본 연구의 목적은 수학적인 방법을 기반으로 한 일러스트레이터의 도구를 이용하여 전통 꽃문양을 구현하는 데 있다. 선사시대 기하학문양이후에 나타난 꽃문양을 불교사찰에 장엄된 공양화에서 찾아보았다. 이번 연구에서는 신라시대이후에 창건된 수덕사, 통도사, 용문사의 공양화문을 통해 화공양(花供養)에 사용된 꽃의 종류를 조사하였다. 그리고 디자인을 위하여 공양화문 중 대표적인 연화문에 대해 알아보고, 마곡사, 범어사, 흥국사에 장엄된 도식화된 문양을 고찰하였다. 연화문을 그리기위한 구조분석에 따라 일러스트레이터의 회전ㆍ반사도구를 활용한 연화모티브 드로잉 방법을 표로 정리하고, 기본 단위패턴과 하프드롭 패턴을 완성하였다. 본 연구에서 제시된 디지털 모티브는 수학적으로 그려져 정확하고, 확대ㆍ축소하여도 이미지의 왜곡이 없다. 또한, 정밀한 모티브들은 다양한 패턴 디자인제작에 큰 도움이 된다. 이와 같은 시도를 통해 모란꽃에 대한 연구로 확장하고자 한다. 또한 우리의 문화유산인 전통문양에 디자이너의 감각을 더한 양질의 디지털자료 제작과 데이터베이스 구축으로 텍스타일디자인, 제품의 표면디자인 등에 적극적으로 활용되기를 기대한다.

영문 초록

Our traditional patterns were dominated by religious sentiments of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism which are reflected in the patterns used in our lives to pray for religious affluence and adapt to the laws of nature. This study explored how to represent traditional flower patterns and render them using underlined mathematical tools from Illustrator. The flower patterns that appeared after geometric patterns of prehistoric times were regarded as flowers offering to Buddha as observed in old temples. The Sudeok, Tongdo and Yongmun temples, built after the Silla Dynasty, were selected for exploring flowers offering to Buddha. We started with researching the symbolism of the most popular lotus motif for computer pattern design. Next, we identified the lotus motif with specific geometry structures such as rotation and reflection that were painted at Magok, Beomeo, and Heungguk temples. Depending on the analysis results, the rendering of a lotus motif is accomplished using Illustrator tools such as rotation and reflection tools. We propose using the completed lotus motif to design the basic unit and half drop patterns. The vector-based accurate motifs presented in this study are mathematically drawn and do not distort with scaling. This feature enables designing motifs with precision that can generate a variety of patterns. Through this experiment, we will expand the design using the Peony Blossom motif in the upcoming study. With this approach, traditional patterns will be represented by vector images and archived in a database that we expect to utilize actively in various fields including textile design and surface design for products.
