독일 디자인의 정체성에 관한 연구

국문 초록

독일 디자인은 세 개의 뿌리, 독일공작연맹과 바우하우스, 울름조형대학에서 시작했다고 해도 과언이 아니다. 독일 디자인의 특성은 스타일에서 쉽게 드러나는데 매우 실질적이고 견고하며 고도의 기능주의에 입각해 기능과 형태가 매우 합리적이며 서로 간에 조화를 이루고 있다. 디자인의 역사에서 가장 영향력 있는 디자인 교육 기관으로 기억되고 있는 바우하우스는 표현주의 예술 공예에 바탕을 둔 교육기관으로 이 학교는 기계주의 철학을 예술과 디자인으로 업그레이드시켰다. 디자인의 다양한 분야에 걸쳐 영향을 미치고 있는 울름 조형 대학의 교과과정 분석을 통해 독일 디자인 교육의 정체성에 대해 살펴보고 또한 교육과 산업과 연관 있는 디자인 정책에 대해 살펴봄으로써 독일 디자인의 정체성에 대해 연구하는데 본 연구의 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 연구방법으로는 문헌연구로서 독일 디자인 교육의 시작인 바우하우스의 역사에 대해 살펴보고 바우하우스의 교과과정과 바우하우스를 잇는 울름 조형대학의 교과과정에 대해 살펴보았다. 1년의 기초과정과 3년의 전공 교과목들의 교과 목표와 내용을 분석하여 독일 디자인 교육의 정체성에 대해 살펴보았고 또한 현재 독일 대학의 교과과정의 특징에 대해 살펴보았다. 나아가 교육과 함께 독일 디자인 정책의 특징과 정책 담당기관을 살펴보고 독일 디자인의 정체성에 대해 분석하였다. 연구결과 독일 디자인은 교육과 정책 측면에서 실용성과 기능성을 중시함을 알 수 있었다. 즉 실용적ㆍ통합적ㆍ과학적 관점의 디자인 교육을 통해 디자인 방향을 주도하는 전통과 함께 교육 뿐만 아니라 정책에서도 독특한 역사와 전통, 고유한 제도와 재정 구조 등을 가지고 서로 다른 특성에 맞는 다양성을 보이고 있었다. 본 연구는 조형예술 분야에 많은 영향을 미친 바우하우스와 울름조형대학의 실질적인 교과과정에 대해 알아보고 이에 대한 가치와 의미를 재조명해보며 나아가 독일 디자인의 정체성에 대해 알아보는데 그 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

The German design began with three roots, Deutscher Werkbund, Bauhaus, University of Ulm (Universität Ulm). The characteristics of German design are easily revealed in style, very practical and solid, and function and form are rational and harmonious with high functionalism. Remembered as the most influential design education institution in the history of design, Bauhaus is an educational institution based on expressive arts crafts. The school upgraded the mechanistic philosophy to art and design. Through the analysis of the curriculum of Ulm University of Design, which has an impact on various fields of design, the identity of German design education was analyzed. The purpose of this study is to explore the identity of German design by examining design policies related to education and industry. For this purpose, the literature on the history of Bauhaus, the beginning of German design education, and the curriculum of Design at University of Ulm, which connects the Bauhaus curriculum with the Bauhaus were reviewed. In order to examine the identity of German design education, characteristics of the curriculum of basic course and advanced courses at University of Ulm and also characteristics of the current curriculum at German universities are analyzed. In addition, characteristics of the German design policy and the institutions responsible for policy, are examined to identify of German design. As a result, it was found that German design emphasizes practicality and functionality in terms of education and policy. In addition to the tradition of leading the direction of design through practical, integrated and scientific perspectives on design, education and politics showed diversity in accordance with different characteristics with unique history, tradition, unique institution and financial structure. The purpose of this study is to examine the practical curriculum of Bauhaus and University of Ulm which have a great influence on the field of formative arts, to review the value and meaning of the curriculum, and to learn about the identity of German design.
