바우하우스 조형교육의 사회적 함의

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 독일 본진에서 미국 수용의 시기까지 바우하우스 조형교육의 성립과 변화 과 정을 살펴봄으로써 그 재해석의 가능성을 묻는 데에 있다. 즉 변화하는 사회적 맥락 안에서 바우 하우스 조형교육은 무엇을 유지하고 무엇을 변화시켰는지를 밝히는 일을 통해 이 교육과정의 현재 적 유효성과 의미를 밝혀보고자 하다. 이에 본고는 독일 시기와 미국 시기로 나누어 그 예비과정(Vorkurs)의 변화에 초점을 맞추었다. 먼저 예비과정의 성립과 이를 둘러싼 내부 교사진들의 갈등을 다룬 Ⅱ장에서는 이 교육과정이 개 인의 창조성의 발견에서 객관적 세계와의 연결로 변화하는 구조에 주목한다. 이는 이 시기 독일의 사회적 요구 그리고 각 교사진들의 교육이념과 연동되어 기존의 아카데미즘을 극복하고 새로운 근 대적 교육체계를 구축하기에 이른다. 이후 바우하우스 교사진들의 미국 이주 이후의 활동과 성과 를 다루는 Ⅲ장에서는 기초과정(Preliminary Course)이라는 명칭으로 미국 교육제도에 수용된 바우 하우스 교육의 현장을 다룬다. 새로운 기술, 새로운 자본의 사회적 요구 안에서 바우하우스의 조형 교육은 그 제도적 변화를 받아들이되 교육의 원칙은 유지시켰다. 변화된 제도는 미국의 대학구조 안에서 제작과 생산의 실험실습 과정이 조형의 조사연구과정으로 변화된 것이고 유지된 것은 물질 과 형태에 대한 탐구는 예술실행의 근간이라는 신념이었다. 이와 같이 미국 종합대학의 학문적 조사 연구의 방법론으로 재구성된 바우하우스의 기초과정은 단순한 개인의 지적 실험의 문제만이 아닌 동시대의 의식과 가치를 시각언어로 형성하게 만드는 교육훈련이었다. 즉 각 사회적 현장 안에서 형성되는 제도와 환경 같은 물질적 조건들을 재료와 도구라는 예술의 근본적인 물질적 조건들로 관계짓는 방식들에 대한 교육론으로 기능하게 된 것이 다. 그리고 독일 본진과 미국적 수용현장들을 가로지르는 이와 같은 바우하우스 조형교육의 원칙 은 예술의 사회적 실천을 논함에 있어 반드시 고려해야 하는 지점이다. 때문에 우리 시대의 조형교육의 새로운 방향을 설정함에 있어 바우하우스의 이와 같은 수용과 이식의 역사를 이해하는 일은 과연 우리가 새롭게 설정할 예술교육의 방법론은 무엇이고 근본적으 로 유지되어야 교육철학은 무엇인지를 다시 묻는 일에 필수적으로 동반되어야 할 일일 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to investigate the possibility of reinterpretation of the Bauhaus formative education from the German Institution to the US ‘. In other words, in the changing social context, Bauhaus’ s formative education tried to reveal the present validity and meaning of this curriculum through identifying what kept and changed what. This paper focuses on the changes of Vorkurs in Germany and USA. In chapter Ⅱ, which deals with the formation of the preliminary process and the conflicts among the internal teachers, we focus on the structure in which the curriculum changes from the discovery of individual creativity to the connection with the objective world. The Bauhaus Education with the social demands of Germany at this time and the educational philosophy of each teacher to overcome the old academism and establish a new modern education system. In chapter Ⅲ, which deals with the activities and achievements of Bauhaus teachers since the US relocation, it deals with the field of Bauhaus education which is accepted in the American education system under the title of Preliminary Course. Within the social demands of new technology and new capital, Bauhaus’ s plastic education has accepted the institutional change but maintained the principle of education. The changed system was changed from the laboratory practice of production and production to the process of research and study of form in the American university structure, and it was the belief that the exploration of material and form was the basis of art practice. The Preliminary Course of Bauhaus reconstructed as a methodology of academic research in the United States of America was not only a matter of individual intellectual experiment but also education and training that made contemporary consciousness and value in visual language. In other words, it has become a teaching theory about the ways in which material conditions such as institutions and environments formed in each social field are related to the fundamental material conditions of art, namely, materials and tools. And the principle of Bauhaus formative education that crosses the German mainland and the American receptions is a point that must be considered in discussing the social practice of art. In this regard, it is essential to understand the history of Bauhaus’ acceptance and transplantation in establishing a new direction for formative education in our time. What is the methodology of art education that we will set new, and it must be maintained fundamentally, it will be an indicator of what educational philosophy is.
