退溪와 高峯 四七論의 덕윤리적 접근

국문 초록

사단칠정론 한국성리학의 특징을 드러낸 논쟁이다. 이 논쟁은 주리나 주기이냐 하는 학파 의식을 답습하면서 특정한 성리학자의 이론이나 단순한 비교 연구에만 머무른 경향이 있다. 기존의 이런 연구는 두 학파의 이론 체계를 심 화시킬 수 있었지만 사칠론의 이론 지평을 확장하는데 한계가 있었다. 그래서 기존의 사칠론과 관련된 연구 성과를 수용하면서도 양자가 결합될 수 있는 방 법을 모색해 보고자 한다. 위와 같은 의도에서 사단과 칠정에 관해 덕윤리적인 관점에서 접근해 보고자 한다. 그래서 논문에서는 사단과 칠정이 어떤 윤리적인 기반에 놓여 있는지를 살펴보면서, 퇴계는 ‘有德者의 윤리’에 해당되며 고봉은 ‘無德者의 윤리’ 에 해당됨을 논의하였고, 이런 윤리적 기반 위에서 이 양자의 융합 가능성을 모색해 보았다.

영문 초록

The Sadan-chiljeong-Debate theory is an argument that shows the features of Korean Neo-Confucianism well. This argument tends to follow the different beliefs of the schools that places emphasis on either li or qi and stops short at making simple comparative studies or the theories of the Neo-Confucian scholars. While these studies may have deepened the theoretical system of the two schools, there were limitations in expanding the theoretical horizons of the sachil-ron theories. Therefore, this study aims at accepting the research achievements related to the existing sachil-ron theories, while also converging the two. For this, the approach was made from a virtue-ethics perspective on sadan and chiljeong. So this study examines what ethical basis sadan and chiljeong is based on. It was argued that Toegye corresponded to the ethics of a virtuous person and Gobong corresponded to ethics of a non-virtuous person . The potential for converging the two was examined based on such ethical foundation.
