기억의 역사를 통한 비판적 문화재 읽기 실행 연구

국문 초록

기억으로 역사를 바라보는 것은 역사를 엄정한 객관적 진술의 기준을 가진 값으로 보기 보다는 사회적 맥락에 따른 담론으로 보게 된다. 기억, 역사, 유물은 서로 결합할 때 과거에 이르는 가장 훌륭한 통로가 된다. 과거를 변화시키려는 다양한 집단의 노력들이 유물, 혹은 문화재를 변형시킨다. 학생들로 하여금 문화재에 담긴 비판적 역사읽기를 통해 문화재에 담긴 강조, 수정, 변경 등을 확인하는 것은 현재를 이해하는 의미 있는 작업이다. 본 연구에서는 실행연구의 방법을 통하여 삼전도비, 자유의 다리, 서대문형무소, 노동당사에 포함된 문화재 변경의 과정을 확인하고 그것들이 현재에 갖는 의미를 확인하는 프로그램을 진행하였다. 학생들은 ‘계획-실행-관찰 및 반성-재실행 및 반성-발표 및 공유’하는 프로그램을 통해 문화재에 담긴 기억의 의미를 이해하고 재해석하며 공유하였다. 프로그램에서 학생들은 문화재가 기억의 산물이며, 다양한 경로를 통해 변형되고, 수정되어 현재에 전해지고 있음을 확인하였다. 실행연구를 통하여 학생들은 역사와 문화재를 단순히 암기하거나 중요한 정보를 확인하는데 그치지 않고 다양한 집단들이 충돌하고, 이해가 상충되는 수단으로 인식하게 된다. 이러한 프로그램은 학생들이 역사에서 문화재와 기억이 갖는 의미를 재확인하고 비판적으로 역사 읽기를 통하여 민주적인 시민의식을 갖추는데 도움을 준다.

영문 초록

To see history as a memory is to perceive it as a discourse within social contexts rather than an objective statement based upon strict standards. As the notion of history of memory has been distributed collective memory has come into the picture and helped the identity of the society built. The ideology of the society cultural discourses and power distribution among groups have influences on the process of the formation of memory. When combined with one another memory history and cultural artifacts can be great pathways to the past. The efforts multiple groups put in to change the past transform the cultural artifacts or properties. It is a significant process to lead students to identify the emphasis modification and alteration done to cultural properties through critical reading of history and lead them to understand the present. In this study educational programs were implemented in an action research to help the students recognize the process of alteration of cultural properties such as ‘Samjeondobi Monument’ ‘ the Bridge of Freedom’ ‘Seodaemun Prison History Hall’ and ‘Labor Party Building’ and the meaning of them in the present. The students understood reinterpreted and shared the meaning of the memory contained in the cultural properties through the program that included ‘plan-action-reflection-re-action-presentation and sharing’ process. Students realized that a cultural property is a product of memory transformed and modified in various ways and transmitted to the present. To conduct an action research in cultural property learning is significant in that it is not just to identify the historical information in cultural properties but to make it possible for the students to understand that cultural properties are the product of memory of past and to perform critical investigation reflecting the identity of the historical period. Students proceed from mere memorizing or identifying important information about history and cultural properties to becoming aware that history and cultural properties are the means through which the interests of various groups conflict in the action research. These programs help students reconsider the meaning of cultural properties and memory develop democratic citizenship through critical reading of history.
