국문 초록

본 연구는 2009개정교육과정에 따라 서울시교육청이 인정한 고등학교 융합형 ‘과학’ 7종의 교과서를 대상으로 STS(Science-Technology-Society) 요소 및 핵심역량요소가 적절히 반영되어 있는지 교과서 내용 빈도분석을 통하여 탐구하였다. 연구 결과, STS 요소는 국제단체에서 요구하는 20% 수준에 조금 미치지 못하는 수준으로 반영되어 있으나, 여전히 내용빈도가 낮고, 특히 세부요소의 반영이 균형 잡히지 않은 채 일부 요소에 치우쳐 있는 것으로 나타났다. 핵심역량 요소는 STS 요소 보 다 훨씬 낮은 수준으로 반영되어 있었고, 세부 요소의 반영 역시 균형이 잡히지 않은 것으로 나타났다. STS 요소와 핵심역량요소를 적정 수준에서 포함하여 2009개정 교육과정의 목적을 최대한 살릴 수 있도록 과학교과서의 개정이 요청된다.

영문 초록

This research conducts a content analysis on the appearance frequencies of STS(Science-Technology-Society) and key competency education contents in 7 textbooks that are newly adopted by Seoul City according to the 2009 curriculum standards that stipulates the importance of STS and key competency education in science education. The result shows that the level of content inclusion of both STS and key competencies in the new science textbooks is generally low, even compared to the levels suggested by international associations. Furthermore, the composition of STS and key competency content components within the textbooks is not balanced but more skewed toward science-related items. The article concludes with suggestions that the science textbooks should be further revised ultimately to fulfill the proposed directions of 2009 curriculum reform, first by increasing the levels of content inclusion of both STS and key competencies, and second by attaining balance among STS and key competency elements.
