재구성된 신체이미지의 표현 양상 연구 - 한스 벨머(Hans Bellmer)의 인형시리즈를 중심으로

국문 초록

20세기 유럽인들은 1, 2차 세계대전을 겪으며 이성의 절대성, 합리성에 대한 회의를 가지게 된다. 특히 프로이트가 주창한 무의식 세계와 그에 대한 인지과정은 유럽인에게 인식의 대전환을 이루는 계기가 되었다. 그들은 이성과 상충하는 개념인 무의식이 인간의 행동과 감정을 규정할 수있음을 자각하였다. 또한 무의식이 표출되는 장소로써 그동안 이성이나 정신에 비해 평가 절하되 었던 몸에 대한 인식의 변화가 나타났다. 본 논문에서는 초현실주의 작가 한스 벨머의 <인형시리 즈> 작품을 통해 몸에 대한 인식의 변화와 그 표현 양상을 연구하고자 하였다. 벨머의 작업을 관통하고 있는 것은 무의식 속에 억압된 것들이 표면으로 회귀하며 나타나는 낯익은 낯섦, ‘언캐니’ 와 금기의 위반을 통해 죽음과 삶의 대립이 사라지고 융합하게 된다는 ‘에로티즘’의 사유이다. 이들 사유는 모순의 역설을 통해 이분적으로 대립하는 것들의 경계를 해체함으로써 시각예술분야에 서도 무한한 발상과 창조의 가능성을 보여주었다. 한스 벨머는 인형의 각 부분을 해체하고, 무의식적 방법으로 재배치하여 배열함으로써, 파편화된 인형의 형태를 구성하였다. 이를 통하여 인간의 왜곡된 욕망을 표출하고, 나아가 파시즘이 지배하던 당시 사회상을 비판하였다. 이처럼 한스 벨머의 작품은 억압된 금기들이 회귀하며 확장시킨 사유들과 더불어 가장 강렬한 시각적 인상을 남기며 몸의 영역과 의미를 확장시켰다.

영문 초록

After World War I and II, the 20th century Europeans started to suspect the absolute and the rationality of reason. Especially, Freud’s account of unconscious mind and its cognitive process became the commencement of the great change in their understanding. The Europeans realized that the unconscious, an opposing concept to reason, has the capability to prescribe man’s emotion and behaviour. Furthermore, the change occurred in the understanding of body as the site where the unconscious is expressed while it had been disparaged compared to mind or reason. This research attempted to examine the change in the understanding of body and its expressive aspects through exploring the surrealist work of Hans Bellmer, . The underlying ideas of Hans Bellmer’s work are ‘Uncanny’ where the restrained reveal and emerge to the surface from the unconscious and create familiarized unfamiliarity, and ‘Érotisme’ where the opposition between death and living vanishes while death and living merge together. These underlying ideas, by dissolving dichotomous boundaries with the paradox of the contradictions, present the unlimited capacity for imagination and creation within visual arts. Hans Bellmer created fragmented figure of dolls by disjointing the dolls into separate parts then rearranging them automatically. By doing so, Han Bellmer expressed mankind’s distorted greed and moreover to criticise the fascist society of the time. Likewise, the work of Hans Bellmer expanded the domain and the meaning of body while leaving intense visual impression together with the ideas that are expanded as the repressed taboos reveal to the surface.
