회화 매체를 활용한 포스트모던 도예의 조형언어 연구

국문 초록

포스트모던 도예의 한 유형으로 등장한 회화 매체를 활용한 조형언어의 연구로부터 도자 기벽에 대한 인식 변화와 더불어 다양한 회화적 표현기법을 도입한 결과였음을 도출할 수 있다. 그것은 다양한 성형기법, 장식기법과 아울러 소성기법에서의 발전과 무관하지 않지만, 예술 분야에서 회화를 필두로 한 포스트모던 미술 경향의 전개와도 결코 무관하지 않다. 특히 화가의 내면적인 이야 기를 내러티브 형식으로 형상화하는 경향을 수용하여 도예가도 기벽을 마치 회화의 캔버스와 같은 표현 매체로 인식하게 되면서부터 이제 도예에서도 탈장르 현상이 가속화되어 표현의 주제와 내용 또한 순수미술의 그것들과 크게 다르지 않게 되었다. 이러한 포스트모던 도예가 60년대 이후 펑크 도예(Funk), 슈퍼 오브제(Super Object)와 같은 표현형식으로 전개되면서부터 점토와 회화의 속성이 결합되는 다양한 유형들이 탄생했다. 따라서 포스트모던 도예에서의 장식기법은 그것이 더 이상 전통적인 의미에서의 장식성이 아니라 작가 심상의 주체적 표현 공간으로 변모하게 된 것이다. 본 논문에서 포스트모던 도예에서 활용된 회화 매체로서의 조형언어를 크게 두 유형으로 분류했 다. 하나는 도예 작품의 기벽에 회화적 표현 요소로서 드로잉(drawing), 페인팅(painting), 전사기 법(printing technique), 문양(pattern) 등을 활용한 포스트모던 도예이며, 다른 하나는 다양한 점토 매체에 문양, 일러스트(illustration) 등을 구사한 도자 오브제와 표현 공간의 확장, 그리고 해체와 결합으로 전개되는 하이브리드(hybrid)형 포스트모던 도예이다. 이러한 분류를 통하여 알 수 있듯이 점토 매체와 회화적 기법을 활용해온 포스트모던 도예는 전통적 장식에서 회화적, 입체적 조형으로 변모되었다. 그리고 도예가의 작가적 심상을 다양하게 구현하는 표현영역으로 정착되었음은 물론이고 관람자와의 교감도 확대되는 등의 조형언어로의 인식 전환도 가능해진 것이다.

영문 초록

From a study on the formative language using painterly medium that appeared as a type of postmodern ceramics, we can induce that it is a result of introduction of various painterly rendering techniques as well as a change in recognition of the porcelain’s surface. It is not irrelevant not only to the development of various formation, decoration and firing techniques, but also a spread of postmodern art tendencies which first began with the painting in the field of arts. In particular, the ceramists, introduced a tendency to visualize the painter’s inner stories with a narrative form, also began to recognize the porcelain’s surface as a rendering medium as if a canvas in the painting, and nowadays there accelerated a phenomenon of genre deconstruction in the ceramics, and thus it did not become largely different with them of pure art in the realms of theme and content of the expression. As soon as postmodern ceramics as such became to be developed into the expression forms as the Funk and Super object since the 1960s, there created various types that combine with the properties of clay and painting. Thus the decoration technique in postmodern ceramics is no longer a decoration from the meaning of tradition, but is transformed into a subjective expression space of a ceramist’s imagery. In this paper, I largely divided the formative language as painterly medium used postmodern ceramics into two. One is a postmodern ceramics which used drawing, painting, printing technique, pattern etc. as expression element on the porcelain’s surface, and another is a postmodern ceramics of hybrid-form which introduced the expansion, deconstruction and combination of ceramic object and expression space that attempted the pattern, illustration, etc. on various clay medium. As known from this division, the postmodern ceramics using clay medium and painterly technique was transformed from traditional decoration into painterly, plastic formation. And it was settled downed as an expression realm to variously represent the ceramist’s inner imagery, and at the same time was possible for a change in recognition as a formative language like an expansion of communication with the spectator.
