국문 초록

에로티즘(性)은 인간의 근원적 욕망으로 의식과 무의식에 존재해 오면서 오랜 세월 개인의 삶과 인류사에 영향을 미쳐왔다. 그러나 20세기 이전까지 본격적인 성 담론은 이루어지지 않았다. 그이유는 어디에 있는 것인가. 바타이유는 에로티즘을 ‘죄악’으로 전락시킨 디오니소스교와 기독교 간의 대립을 지목했다. 니체와 헤겔의 영향을 받은 바타이유는 정치, 경제, 사회, 문학 등 다방면에 걸쳐 인간 중심의 사유를 전개했으며, 그 사유의 기저에 에로티즘이 깔려 있다. 본 연구는 획일화된 이성 중심의 서양식 성 담론에 노골적인 비판을 가한 바타이유의 에로티즘을 기준삼아 고대에서 근세까지의 사회를 분석, 서술하였다. 성에 대한 인식은 국가와 시대, 문화에 따라 다양한 양상을 보인다. 특히 서양 사회의 성에 대한 인식 변화에 큰 영향을 끼친 것이 두 종교 간의 대립이라는 주장은 새로운 관점이라 할 수 있다. 당시 기독교 사회는 기존 체제를 부정하고 새로운 왕국을 건립, 존속시키기 위한 당위를 필요로 했다. 그 도구로 활용된 것이 에로티즘이다. ‘선’과 ‘악’이라는 흑백논리에 더해 ‘성’을 죄악과 금기로 보는 시각은 사회 지배의 편리한 도구로 오랫동안 작용했다. 이러한 시각은 시각예술 분야 에도 상당한 영향을 끼친 것으로 보인다. 고대 이후, 에로티즘을 주제로 전개된 대부분의 작품들은 죄악과 금기, 죽음에 대한 공포, 단죄 등을 포현했거나 노골적인 성적 쾌락을 다루었다. 본 연구의 목적은 역사와 사회, 시대상에 대한 가치관을 넓히고 비판적 사고를 배양하여 시각예 술의 표현 영역 확장에 기여하는 것이다. 그러나 본 연구가 성에 대한 논쟁의 근원적 배경을 모두 파헤치기에는 역부족이다. 깊이 있게 다룰 수 없었던 점이 아쉬움으로 남으며, 그럼에도 본 논문이 획일화된 시각 기준을 벗고 창작활동에 새로운 모티브로 작용할 수 있기를 기대한다.

영문 초록

Erotism has existed in human s consciousness and unconsciousness as fundamental desire, and it has affected individual lives and human s history for a long period of time. But there were no full-fledged discourse for sex before 20th century. What were the reasons? Georges Bataille identified that reason on the conflict between Dionysus and Christianity which made erotism sin. He who was influenced by Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche and Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel spread his human-centered intellection in many fields including politics,economics, sociology, literature, and the erotism was located on the basis of that course. This study analyzed and described societies from ancient to recent times based on Georges Balaille s erotism that had given naked criticism on the unified and reason-centered western sexual discourse. The recognitions for sex are seen various aspects according to country, era and culture. Specially, we can tell Georges Bataille s insistence that the conflict between Dionysus and Christianity influenced western society to change their recognition for sex is new perspective. In those days, Christian society had a necessity to deny existing structure and to build and maintain new kingdom. Erotism was used as the tool. Perspective which judge sex as sin and taboo in addition to black-or-white dichotomy of good-or-evil had functioned as a useful tool to control society for a long time. This perspective is seen influenced visual fine arts field considerably. After ancient times, most of visual fine artworks that spread out based on the theme of erotism had expressed sin and taboo, fear for death, judgment of crime, or had dealt with naked sexual pleasure. The purpose of this study is to contribute to territorial expansion of expressions in visual fine arts field through broadening the values of history, society, the phases of the times and cultivating critical thinking. But this study is not enough to delve into all basic sources for sexual discourse. I have regrets for that. Nevertheless, I anticipate this study can possibly unload unified perspective basis and can be worked as a new motif to all creative activities.
