수직적 사회질서, 다중 연결망, 뇌물공여 간 관계에 대한 연구

국문 초록

이 연구는 한국에서의 수직적 사회질서, 다중 연결망, 그리고 뇌물공여 간의 관계를 분석한다. 이 연구는 뇌물친화적인 연결망과 그렇지 않은 연결망을 구분함으로써 기존 연구에 비해 연결망의 특성을 보다 상세하게 보여준다. 사회연결망과 뇌물공여 간의 관계가 다양한 점에 주목하여 이 연구는 수직적 사회질서가 뇌물공여에 직접 영향을 미치는지, 그리고 연결망과 뇌물 간 관계를 매개하는지 검토한다. 수직적 사회질서에서 상위층에 있는 행위자는 자신의 지위로 인해 뇌물공여에 따르는 위험인식의 완화를 경험함으로써 뇌물공여 행위에 보다 적극적이거나 연결망 활동을 통해 뇌물공여 확률을 높일 수 있다. 하위층에 있는 행위자는 높은 불확실성 하에서 뇌물공여 외에는 자신의 목적을 이루기 어렵다고 느낄 수 있다. 이 연구에서는 전국규모 설문조사 자료를 분석하여 수직적 사회질서를 나타내는 변수로 가구소득과 권위주의적 태도를 선택하여 두 변수가 뇌물공여에 직접 미치는 영향과, 다중 연결망 변수와 상호작용하면서 미치는 영향을 검토한다. 분석결과 가구소득과 권위주의적 태도는 다중 연결망 변수와 결합하거나 혹은 직접적으로 뇌물공여 확률을 높이는 것으로 나타났다.

영문 초록

This article examines the relationship between vertical social order, multiple networks and bribery in South Korea. This article sets apart two networks which are bribery-prone and not bribery-prone. Given the diverse linkages between networks and bribery, this article investigates whether vertical social order, a dominant feature of Korean society for years, mediates the two variables. Based on a social survey data, this article shows household income and authoritarian attitudes, two indicators and components of vertical social order in Korea, increase the log-odds of bribery both with and without interaction effects with multiple network activity. The effects of vertical social order upon bribery show contrasting mechanisms: those with high status and power resource, or highly authoritarian attitude can experience significant weakening of risk cognition related with bribery, while those with low status and power resource coupled with authoritarian belief may find themselves lacking means to obtain their purpose other than the risky behavior of bribery. Both mechanisms are closely related with multiple networks.
