영문 초록

This paper deals with the increasing and decreasing behavior of self-employment in which the variable of self-employment represents the entrepreneurship. The recent proposition suggests that the labour of self-employment flows into full-time workers, thus decreases when the economy is in growing times, so called, "prosperity-pull effect." On the other hand, the labour of self-employment is increasing due to increased unemployment rate when the economy is plunged, what we called this, "recession-push effect." Instead of this proposition, the author asserts new proposition that the labour of self-employment is increasing when the economy is in good shape, together with increased full-time workers. This effect is called "synergy-pull." On the other hand, the labour of self-employment is decreased when the economy is plunged, together with increased unemployment rate. This effect is called, "recession-down." The author asserts that the first proposition assumes extremely good or bad economic situation. This paper purports to prove this new proposition using domestic cross-sectional data. Major findings support that the self-employment ratio is increasing when the full-time workers are increasing, and it is decreasing when the unemployment ratio is increasing at the times of ordinary economic situation. Thus synergy-pull and recession-down effects are partially persuasive. When we assume extremely good or bad economic situation, via introducing square variables in the model, prosperity-pull and recession-push effects are rather persuasive. As a result, the first proposition and new proposition harmonize in the economy evincing business cycle. The point of synergy-pull and recession-down effects are rather stronger in the ordinary economic situation.
