영문 초록

Cumulative causation process in regional economic growth theory is challenged by the fact that the additional investment is declinning in large agglomerations and new spatial preferences is formed around the lagging regions formerly refused from the prosperous firms. This study is towards the explanatory framework for the reversal the trajectory, or ups and downs of regional economic growth derived from the new spatial preferences around the underdeveloped regions. There can be too many spatial causes that shape economic growth patterns in particular regions. Among them, the most important factor is argued to be `echnological change` or the technological revolution. Technological change alters the relative weightings of locational factors by exerting important effects upon the production systems and production organisations, in turn remolding firm`s locational decision making behaviours. And this change is connected with the new spatial causes by revaluating spatial conditions for the new economic activites or the additional investment. These spatial effects can be divided in two by the flow directionality or production factors according to profit cycles : One is spatial cycles-ups in relative lagging regions and downs in existing agglomerations by prusuiting new spatial economic conditions, the other is reinforcement of cumulative causation process in regional economic growth by getting rid of obstades against spatial inertia. However, the theory for regional cycles or cyclical patterns in regional economic growth can be constructed by reanalyzing literatures formerly chased from the point of cumulative causation effects in regional economic growth. This logic derived from the spatial cycles can expected to be useful in explaning the shadow pattern beyond existing regional economic growth therories.
