영문 초록

The goal of this paper is to consider issues related to and the significance of remaking Japanese texts, which is currently very popular in South Korea. Fullscale remakes of Japanese manga and drama series have become popular within South Korea since the 2000s. Since FY2010 in particular, most of the remakes done in South Korea have been based on Japanese works. In this paper, I will investigate the characteristics of this remaking phenomenon - focusing on Jin, which was much talked about in both Japan and South Korea - while bearing in mind negative views and questions raised by the popularity of remakes. Jin is a text that appeals to the general public and features all elements from science fiction to period drama, including time travel, newly introduced Western medicine, modern consciousness and ways of thinking, and idealized love and romance. However, little attention was paid to the differences between the Japanese and South Korean publics during its remaking into a South Korean TV drama, which resulted in problems with nuanced development and modes of expression when it came to interpersonal relations, communication processes, the identification of conflicts, and the resolution of problems.
