이학규의 書畵 인식과 鑑評

국문 초록

이학규는 그동안 실학파 문인으로 학계에 인식되어 왔으나, 직접 그림을 그리고 서예를 익히는 등 書畵에 대한 관심이 매우 높았던 문인이다. 그의 서화에 대한 인식과 감식안은 다음을 배경으로 이루어질 수 있었다. 우선 이학규가 생장한 외가가 바로 당대 저명한 문인과 화가들이 수시로 드나들었던 혜환 이용휴의 집이라는 점이다. 이러한 가학의 배경으로 그는 당대 이름난 화가들과의 접촉 및 교류가 가능했다. 다음으로 중국에서 전래된 각종 서화 관련 서적의 습득이다. 이학규는 여러 화보류와 화론서를 습득함으로써, 서화에 대한 기법은 물론 이와 관련한 다양한 정보를 얻을 수 있었다. 이를 통해 그의 서화 인식이 확장되었으며, 실제 회화 감평에 이용되기도 하였다. 이학규는 그 자신이 서예에 대한 감식안을 지녔다고 자부하였다. 서예에 대해 감평한 글은 잘 드러나지 않지만, 회화에 대해서는 여러 편의 글을 남기고 있어 그의 회화관을 살펴볼 수 있다. 그는 蘇軾의 ‘商理論’과 유사한 화론을 펼치고 있는데, 이를 통해 그 역시 당시에 유행했던 문인화론을 수용했던 것으로 보인다. 이학규의 서화 감평에 대한 실제 사례를 살펴보면, 그가 당대 서화 기법을 파악하고 있었으며 화단의 최신 동향을 감지하고 있었던 사실이 나타난다. 자하 신위가 아들의 그림을 보내주면서 품평을 요구한 사실은 당시 이학규가 지닌 서화 감식안의 수준을 단적으로 보여주는 일례이다. 본 연구는 조선 후기 남인계 문인의 예술적 면모를 드러내고, 나아가 당대 서화사의 맥락을 고찰하는 데 그 의의를 지닌다.

영문 초록

Lee Hak-Gyu was recognized in academic circles as a literary man of realistic school. But he was high interest in learning, such as calligraphy and painting himself. His recognition of paintings and calligraphic works and reviews was done by the following background. First of all, his mother's family is the home of Lee Yong-Hyu. Prominent contemporary writers and painters were frequently coming and going in the house of Lee Yong-Hyu. Next, the acquisition of various publications documenting introduced from China. Lee Hak-Gyu is by reading a lot of pictorial books and paintings, it was possible to obtain a variety of information and techniques of paintings and calligraphic works. Consequently his recognition of paintings and calligraphic works was extended. It was also used in the actual painting reviews. Lee Hak-Gyu was confident that he is appreciative for the calligraphy. He did not leave much for the reviews of calligraphy. Through several articles about the paintings he wrote, we can see his paintings view. His paintings theory is similar to the paintings of the Song Dynasty theory of So Sik. As can be inferred from this that followed the Literary Artists' Paintings were popular at the time, too. Looking at his the actual practices for paintings and calligraphic works of reviews, it appears that he was aware of contemporary techniques were paintings and calligraphic works and detect the latest trends in painting circles. Jaha Shin Wi was required for the opinion of his son's picture to him. This is an example that shows plainly the level of his the paintings and calligraphic works of reviews. This study reveals the artistic aspects of the late Joseon's literary man and even has the significance to consider the historical context of contemporaries paintings and calligraphic works.
