金祖淳을 통해 본 19세기 安東金門의 골동서화애호와 감상 풍조

국문 초록

본 논문은 19세기 전반 대표적인 문인관료였던 金祖淳(1765~1832)의 활동을 통해 이 시기 安東金門의 예술취향과 서화애호 양상 등에 관해 살펴 본 것이다. 김조순이 활동한 19세기 전반은 전통 주자학의 고수와 金正喜 로 대표되는 淸朝 고증학풍에 대한 몰두, 명말청초의 문풍과 이에 대한 반향이 혼재하고 있었으며 문화계를 주도한 경화사족이 추구한 예술취향과 書畵收藏 역시 이러한 시대적･사상적 변화에 영향을 받으며 전개되었다. 김조순의 서화애호 역시 가문의 오랜 전통과 申緯 등 주변 서화가들과 교유를 통해 형성된 것이었지만 19세기라는 변화된 사회 분위기도 반영되었다. 특히 도심 속에서 玉壺精舍를 지어 정원을 꾸미고 장서실을 만들어 많은 문적을 구비해 놓았으며 그 속에서 서화를 소소하게 즐긴 삶은 분명 斥和와 義理를 표명한 선조들이 別墅를 통해 추구한 은일정신과 구별되는 행위였다. 김조순의 이러한 삶은 김유근 등 후손들에게 전해져 가문 내에서 골동 서화애호와 완상이 보편화되기에 이르게 되었다. 그는 家藏 서책과 김창업 등 선조들의 필적과 화첩, 자신을 총애한 正祖 의 하사품, 특별히 선호한 墨竹畵, 그리고 연원은 불분명하지만 다양한 골 동품 등을 기반으로 자신의 컬렉션을 구성하였다. 또한 김홍도, 이인문 등 유명 화가들을 초빙하여 <高山九曲詩畵屛> 제작을 주도하는 등 가문 내 문 벌의식을 공고히 하는데 주요한 역할을 하였다. 서화창작에 있어서는 청나라 서화가 張道渥과 당대 최고의 묵죽화가 申 緯를 정신적으로 추종하면서 形보다는 意를 중요시하는 전형적인 문인화론을 표방하였다. 그의 이러한 繪畵觀은 형상에 구애받지 않고 자유롭게 그린 묵죽화를 통해서도 엿볼 수 있다. 지금까지 김조순의 활동은 조선말기 정치사에 국한되어 조명되어왔으나 京･鄕의 分岐가 명확해진 사회적 분위기 속에서 경화사족의 서화애호와 수집의 성격을 좀 더 면밀하게 파악할 수 있는 단서를 제공해 준다는 점에서 미술사적 의의를 찾을 수 있다.

영문 초록

This paper deals with the Andong Kin Family's taste in art and their activities as patrons for artists in the 19th century of Joseon, on the focus of Kim Jo-soon(金祖淳, 1765~1832), one of the representative official scholar at that time. His family lineage, Andong Kim clan(安東金門) is one of the outstanding families that produced many celebrities both of political and artistic through the periods of Joseon dynasty. The 19th century when Kim Jo-soon was active witnesses an age that the Joseon scholars was still pursuing traditional Confucianism while a new trend called “bibliographical study”(考證學) of Ching China has been spread. A group of official scholars living in Hanyang, i.e. Seoul, capital of Joseon, sought the artistic fever on collecting of famous painting, calligraphy, antiques, old items through the ages. Today Kim Jo-soon is more known for his powerful role in the late Joseon political sphere, than in cultural sector, however, he strongly pursued a taste of art and artists by collecting ancestors' books and antiques around him. His such longtime patronage was connected with an intimate relationship with Sin Wi(申緯), famous ink bamboo painter at that time. Kim was inherited by his ancestors' cultural production and relationship with artists such as Sin Wi. In creating ink bamboo paintings, Kim emphasized literati-spirit which is more important the meaning(意), rather than the shape or effigy(形). His spirit and love of art have been maintained by repeating a generation of Andong Kim family who kept their effort for family's honor and nobility. However, in the political turmoil of the late Joseon period, their spirit and fever on art were faded by weakening their social place as a notable family.
