志庵 金在默의 삶과 시

국문 초록

본 논문은 예천 보문 출신의 유학자 金在默(1794~1873)의 삶과 시에 대한 연구이다. 김재묵은 자가 孟淵, 호가 志庵, 본관이 金海이다. 그의 삶을 한마디로 요약하자면 ‘尙志的 삶’이라 할 수 있다. 그는 고인들의 뜻을 우선시하는 先志의 삶에 감흥을 받아 자신이 살던 집을 ‘志庵’이라 편액하고 집을 드나들 때마다 성찰의 방편으로 활용하였다. 그의 尙志的 삶은 <志 庵記>에서 구체적으로 확인할 수 있으며, 또한 시 작품에서도 尙志的 삶을 읽어낼 수 있다. 특히 傲霜孤節, 霜下傑로 일컬어지고 있는 국화를 읊은 시 에서 그는 陶潛의 세태에도 변함없는 지조 있는 삶, 이욕에 휩쓸리지 않는 절의적 삶을 지향하였다. 김재묵은 超邁하고 不群한 재주로 일찍부터 경사와 백가서를 두루 섭렵 하였으며, 시문을 짓는 능력이 탁월하였다. 그의 平實하고 紆餘한 시는 試 驗場에서도 인정을 받아 시험관이 고관대작들에게 줄을 대주려 할 정도였다. 그러나 取捨의 구분이 엄격하던 그는 유혹을 뿌리치고 곧장 南下하였다. 이후 그는 초야에 묻혀 옛 성현들의 글을 읽으면서 학문에 정진하며 후학들을 양성하였다. 김재묵의 시는 100여 수의 적은 양이지만 그가 평생 추구했던 尙志的 삶 의 족적을 탐색하고 이해하기에 부족함이 없다. 비록 역사적으로 널리 알려진 인물은 아니나, 19세기 예천 지역에서 자족적 삶을 지향한 지식인의 고뇌와 연민, 의지 등을 엿볼 수 있으므로 지방학의 외연 확장은 물론 한국 문학사의 지평을 확대할 수 있는 계기가 될 것이다.

영문 초록

This research examines the life and poetry of Kim Jae-muk(1794~1873), the Confucian scholar from Bomun in Yecheon. His nickname was Mangyeon, pen name was Jiam, and family clan was Kimhae. His life can be summarized in a word as ‘the life of noble mind.’ He was inspired by the life that gave priority to the wills of the deceased, so hung a tablet saying ‘Jiam(志庵)’ in his house and made use of it as the means of introspection whenever he came in and out of his house. His life with noble mind can be confirmed in details in Jiamgi(志庵記), and his poems also showed his high spirit. In particular, in the poem about chrysanthemums called as Osanggojeol(傲霜孤節) and Sanghageol(霜下傑), he pursued the life with fidelity which was not changed even in the social conditions of Dojam(陶潛), and a determined life not swayed by greed. He was well-read in Confucian classics and the books of various philosophers and scholars with his excellent talent no one could rival from an early age, and had a great ability of writing poetry and prose. His upright, substantial, smooth and elegant poems were acknowledged at the examination site, too, so even an examiner tried to pull the strings of high and distinguished officials. However, he sharply distinguished what to take or desert, and moved to south right away without thinking back. He remained in private life fostering younger students and devoted himself to his studies reading sage's words every day. There are about 100 pieces of Kim Jae-muk's poems, which is small in number, but enough to examine and understand his life of high spirit sought after by him all his life. Even though he's not a far-famed figure in the history, the study on him helps get a taste of an intellectual who pursued a self-sufficient life in Yecheon in the 19th century, so it can be the opportunity not only for local studies to expand their extension denotation but also for the history of Korean literature to widen its prospect.
