<花史>의 문제의식과 의식지향

국문 초록

본고에서는 임제의 한문소설 중 비교적 길이가 길고, 꽃의 의인과 더불어 사서(史書)의 서술기법을 도입하여 흥미를 유발하며, 작가의 목소리가 작품에 충실히 투영된 <화사(花史)>를 중점적으로 살펴보았다. 우선 2ㆍ3장에서는 <화사>의 창작 방식에서의 특징과 문제의식이 구현되는 양상, 사평을 통한 작자의 의식지향을 살펴보았다. <화사>를 의인과 편년체의 서사 기법 면에서 살펴보고, 주요 사건의 말미나 각 왕조가 멸한 후에 붙은 사신의 논평을 통해 작자의 의식이 지향하는 바를 파악하고자 했다. 그 결과 도나라의 열왕만이 끝까지 덕치를 베푼 군주였고, 이후의 왕과 왕조들은 그렇지 못하여 망국으로 치닫게 된다. 이러한 내용을 통하여 임제가 생각한 이상적 정치와 군주상이 무엇인지, 그리고 그가 현실에서 고민하고 좌절한 정치상황이 어떤 것인지 알 수 있었다. 이상의 논의를 바탕으로 초창기의 한문소설로서 <화사>가 지니는 몇 가지 의미를 찾아보았다. 서사 기법 면에서 가전소설에서 주로 사용하는 의인체를 원용하였으나 가전(假傳)보다는 왕조사를 다루었고, 인간의 역사가 아닌 꽃의 역사를 사서(史書)의 편년체로 서술하였다. 이러한 창작 방식은 현실에 직면한 정치 문제 등의 문제의식을 날카롭게 드러내기 위한 것이라 하겠다. 따라서 <화사>는 의인체 서사의 전통을 수렴하여 독특한 서사기법을 통해 사회비판적인 작자의식을 적절히 투영하여 소설장르적인 정체성을 강화하고, 그것을 조선후기의 의인체 소설에 넘겨준 것으로 볼 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study examined , in which the author's voice is faithfully projected, which attracts interest by adopting the narrative technique of a history book and personification of flowers, and which is a relatively long novel among the novels written in Chinese letters by Imje. First of all, Chapters 2 and 3 studied the characteristics of the writing method of Hwasa, identified the method by which a critical mind is realized, and examined the consciousness of the author through a method of commenting on history. This study sought to examine based on the aspect of personification and narrative skills in a chronological form and to understand the consciousness of the author through the comments of the historical record which was attached after the the destruction of each dynasty or at the end of each major event. As a result, the King Yeoul of the Do Dynasty was the only monarch that ruled based on virtue to the end, and the kings and dynasties afterwards were different, which headed towards a ruin. Through such stories, we can know what Imje thought of as ideal politics and figure of a monarch, and what political situations he was concerned of and was frustrated with in reality were. Based on the above discussions, this study sought to find several meanings of as an early novel written in Chinese letters. Regarding the narrative technique, the personification prose mostly used in personified biographical novels was incorporated, but the story dealt with the history of dynasties rather than personified biography, and described the history of flowers, and not human beings, in a chronological form of a history book. Such writing method can be said to sharply reveal the critical mind of the political issues in reality. Thus, Hwasa can be said to have strengthened the identity of a novel genre by adequately projecting the socio-critical consciousness of the author through a unique narrative technique by gathering the tradition of personification narrative, and to have handed over such feature to the personification novels in the latter period of Joseon.
