청구야담 한문본 필사 오류 연구

국문 초록

본고는『청구야담』 한문본의 필사 과정에서 나타난 오류 사례를 적출하고 그에 대한 설명을 시도하였다. 여기에 해당하는 사례로는 1)한자의 음이 같고 글자가 다른 경우 2)한자의 모양이 비슷하지만 글자가 다른 경우 3)한자의 음과 모양이 전혀 다르지만 뜻이 비슷한 경우 4)한자의 위치가 다른 경우 등이 있는데 이 논문에서는 1)에 해당하는 경우만을 우선 다루었다. 먼저『청구야담』 필사 과정의 음사(音寫) 원리를 재구성하였다. 다음으로『청구야담』 필사 과정에 개입한 음사(音寫)의 양상과 필사 오류를 넷으로 나누어 분석하였다. 1)한자음을 정확하게 읽고 기억했지만 뜻이 다른 글자로 필사한 경우 2)한자음을 정확하게 읽고 기억하여 문맥이 통하는 다른 글자로 필사한 경우 3) 한자음을 부정확하게 읽었거나 정확하게 읽었지만 잘못 기억하여 글자를 정확하게 필사하지 못한 경우 4) 한자음을 비슷하게 읽었거나 기억하고 뜻이 비슷한 글자로 필사한 경우로 나누어 분석하였다. 이런 분석의 결과를 바탕으로 하여 󰡔청구야담󰡕 이본 비교에서의 음사 오류 현상 활용 가능성을 타진하였다. 먼저 음사 오류 현상에 대한 분석의 결과를 통하여, 『청구야담』 이본 중 최선본이라 할 <버클리대본>과 그 다음 많은 단편을 싣고 있는 <동양본>, 그리고 6책본을 대표하는 <국도본> 사이의 관계를 새롭게 따질 수 있었다. 그 결과 <국도본>은 <동양본>보다는 <버클리대본>과의 상친성이 더 클 수도 있다는 결론을 도출하였다. 음사 오류 현상을 이본 간 선후 관계를 해명하는 데도 적극 활용할 방안을 도출하였다. 국어 음운 변천에서 ‘ㅚ’와 ‘ㅗ’의 교체 현상, 이중 모음의 단모음화 현상을 참조하여 이본 간 선후 관계를 밝힐 수 있었다. 후대본으로 짐작되는 이본일수록 음사 표기의 오류가 더 많이 난다는 원칙을 세울 수 있었다. 음사의 오류가 있는 이본은 그렇지 않는 이본보다 앞설 수 없을 가능성이 매우 크다고 보았다. 그런 방법론과 원칙으로써 <버클리대본>이 <동양본>보다 앞선 이본임을 밝힐 수 있었다.『청구야담』 한문본에는 한자의 비슷한 모양을 두고 일어난 필사 오류도 음사 오류 못지않게 많다. 또 부수(部首)의 오류는 소리와 모양이 함께 개입하여 생긴 필사 오류이다. 앞으로 이 두 국면에 대한 분석을 이어가서『청구야담』 한문본 필사 오류의 문제를 종합적으로 해명하고자 한다.

영문 초록

This paper studies cases of errors incurred in the process of transcribing Chunggu Yadam in Chino-Korean and analyzes the reasons of their errors. Four prominent reasons can be traced: the first type of errors occurring from homonyms; the second from words with similar shapes but different letters; the third from words with similar meanings but different sounds and shapes; the last from the different location of Chino-Korean letters. This paper limits its analysis only to the first cases. First, this paper illuminates the principles of phonetic transcription of Chunggu Yadam and then proceeds to analyze four types of errors resulting from the phonetic transcription process. 1) The first cases occurred when the transcriber used letters with different meanings even though he read and remembered the original texts correctly. 2) The second cases happened when the transcriber replaced the original words with the letters with same meanings that he thought were more suitable to the context. 3) The third cases resulted from incorrect transcription due to misreadings or false memories of the original words. The last cases were results of transcribing similar letters based on mistaken readings and rememberances of similar letters. Based on these observations, this paper explores the possibilities of utilizing these errors in phonetic transcription for comparative analysis of different editions of Chunggu Yadam. A Principle can be deduced that an edition presumed to be a later version has more phonetic transcription errors. An edition with phonetic transcription errors has little chance of being an earlier version than that without errors. Chino-Korean version of Chunggu Yadam contains fair numbers of transcription errors due to similar shapes of letters. Further analysis of these errors is necessary for a comprehensive study of transcription errors of Chino-Korean Chunggu Yadam.
